On Nov 6th three beautiful siblings (12, 8 and 3 y.o.) will be separated and put into various shelters if we don’t band together to help. At a minimum we want to help Cheri and Leo (current care providers) keep the kids over the holidays. With your help it will enable Cheri and Leo to keep the kids for another four months.
As many of you know the three beautiful kids came into our lives last year. I became aware of the family after discovering they were living in their car with mom and her abusive partner. After a horrific incident in July 2017 the Department of Children and Family Services became involved and took the kids away from mom.
After the incident the kid’s daycare providers 'Cheri and Leo' stepped up in a way only a rare few us do…. they took the kids into their home. Over the last 21 years they have helped 1000’s of kids in south central find their way. To keep the 3 special kids they sold one of their cars and taken part time jobs to hold onto these kids but it’s becoming finically too hard without the support from DCFS.
Yesterday, Christopher and I went to an emergency meeting with Department of Children and Family Services regarding how the foster care system could help Cheri and Leo. In the meeting we were made aware that on Jan 2017 the state of California implemented a new foster care approval system, which means that the current caregivers were only entitled to $400 per child per month for the first three months. The family cannot finically wait another 3-6 months to be approved to become full time foster parents. Keep in mind, other families they have talked to have been waiting a year for the approval. We have been told there is 70 cases infront of this case.
Cheri and Leo have gone above and beyond to help these three kids. Taking them to many important doctor and dentists’(resulted in 4 root canals for Jaden and many filled cavities for the kids)appointments, and meeting with their teachers and most importantly trauma therapy sessions.
Shakei (12 y.o) has been healthier then ever since joining this family – losing three dress sizes in the last 3 months. Her grades are improving and she is enrolled into the NIA program for university.
Jaden’s (8 y.o) grades have dramatically increased and he loves being able to have stability. Very attached to Cheri.
Beautiful Junior is finally talking and is able to be and play like a little 3 year old.
We ask that you please keep this private and share only with those who you trust. While the Cheri and Leo know we are reaching out to our family and friends to raise funds – we do not want the kids to feel shamed by this effort.
