Help us keep June in the UK

Help us keep June in the UK by sharing widely and donating if you can

June is a kind, compassionate and supportive member of our community, and these already difficult times have put increased pressure on his ability to live here. He needs our help.

We urgently need to raise £7121 to pay for legal fees and prevent June from having to leave the UK.

June gives a huge amount to London’s trans and queer communities working as a youth mentor with Spectra, a non-profit for trans and non-binary folks and with groups including Art Asia Activism and London Trans Pride. Prior to Covid, he worked as an artist, performer and model while paying his way with casual hospitality roles in queer nightlife. Covid, along with ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’,* has left June with little income to live, let alone with enough to cover the UK’s extortionate legal, visa and NHS surcharge fees.

- Despite and against the Home Office’s best attempts to deport our siblings, tearing our networks and support structures apart, we commit to mutual aid, again and again, with whatever resources we can gather together.

- Despite knowing that we shouldn’t have to line the pockets of the establishment, we commit to mutual aid, because we can’t trust this broken system to keep us safe.

Committing to mutual aid is political: it increases the capacity of our movements to build worlds where we are in charge of our own healthcare, housing, refuges, and gender clinics.  In committing to mutual aid, we strengthen our struggles against the racist borders that are making June and so many others’ lives untenable.

Breakdown of costs:

-Lawyer fees (inclusive of VAT) for visa application: £2,880
-Home office application fee for global talent application £152
-Arts council endorsement application fee - £456
-NHS Immigration Health Surcharge (£624 per year for 5.5 year visa) - £3432
-2.9% Gofundme transaction fee (apologies, i missed this in the small print)

Image description: June stands, socially distanced, in a central London park on a sunny day speaking at this year's Trans Pride. He reads from his phone which is looped around his neck on an orange lanyard; he is wearing a white vest with a shirt tied around his waist and is looking buff. The photo is by Bex Wade.
