Gerogia @ MBN - One of my close friends, sadly lost her cousin, Gemma to a battle with mental health issues. Gemma had two young kids and used to sing You Are My Sunshine to them. YAMS was set up in Gemma's memory to create awareness and promote positive change to Mental Health Services in Scotland and support people in our community through therapy, support and advice.
The You are my Sunshine (YAMS) Charity is a Mental Health Support, Advice and Therapy Hub based in Brannock High School, Newarthill.
YAMS mission is simple…
To create awareness and promote positive change to Mental Health Services in Scotland. To support people in our community through therapy, support and advice.
YAMS is Newarthill’s new Mental Health Hub and aims to raise awareness, fight for change and give advice and support in loving memory of Gemma Jones.
They are a small charity with a big heart and huge dreams. They have been campaigning and fundraising in Gemma’s name since she passed on September 17th 2017. We aim to break the chains on this silent epidemic and raise awareness within our communities and within our society that it is “okay to not be okay.” We aim to give mental health a voice and end the stigma because Mental Illness plagues one in three of us and it doesn’t discriminate between man, woman and child.
It plants its seed of self-doubt before spreading its roots and gradually taking control. Mental Illness is just as real as broken bones and is just as deadly as most cancers and it survives because we don’t have the tools to fight it. You are my Sunshine wants to give you those tools and wants to encourage anyone who is battling demons or suffering in silence to come to our hub, chat or just grab a cuppa with people who can relate, can support and have the information to guide you.
