Heartbreakingly, over the course of a week my girl’s world has been turned upside down...Holly has been diagnosed with an aggressive malignant carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer.
While you would expect this shock diagnosis to completely knock a young mum off her feet, Holly has remarkably gotten straight back up and started swinging. She has been hitting the appointments hard, making healthy smoothies with the kids that Martha S & Miranda K would be proud of and inspirationally she has shared her story in the hope it will help others. I am in total awe.
Anyone that has met Holly knows she is warm, strong, intelligent, funny and the life of the party. To those closest she is a rock, a daughter, a mother, a sister, an Aunty and a best friend. She brings her unwavering sparkle, humour, wit to every situation and makes it better.
Holly and I have worked together, trained together, travelled together, lived together, mothered together. While I cannot walk this path with her I will do my absolute best to support her as she does. So, I have created this page in the hopes that we can work together to help give Holly, Mike, Isaiah & Estelle a little comfort in this storm.
Holly will soon begin enduring chemotherapy for 16 long, tiresome weeks. Following this, she will undergo a double mastectomy surgery.
Endless specialist and medical fees, hospital stays, medication costs, extended leave from work for both Mike & Holly, daycare, travel, parking, supplements, vitamins, anything that is going to keep our girl fighting fit with her family, and wigs (because you know she’ll need a good one ) are all expenses they should not have to worry about during this overwhelmingly stressful time. Oh and if a breast cancer diagnosis wasn't enough to deal with in one week, the car broke down and the sink tap flew across the kitchen on multiple occasions, just to keep them on their toes.
Thank you for your outpouring of support so far, Holly has been blown away with the sincere messages of compassion and empathy she has received. A gift of any amount to lessen the burden on this loving, happy, hardworking family would not go unnoticed and your help would be extremely appreciated. Let’s look forward to the day you can send those messages of congratulations because she has beaten this wretched thing!
As no good awareness campaign is without a hashtag these days we are using:
#BoobycaniHOLdyoutonight (I didn’t sing it you sang it) To support Holly and rally the troops into checking themselves and listening to their gut instincts even when challenged, just like Holly did to start her fight.
