Meet Jet
Jet is a very young black Belgian Shepherd. She should be full of life, energy and curiosity. Instead, at just around a year old, she arrived at our kennels having already endured a life no dog should ever experience.
For most of her short life, Jet was kept confined in a crate that was far too small for her growing body. She had little space to move, little exercise, and far too little food.
The result has been heartbreaking.
When Jet came to us she was in obvious pain. Her body has been shaped by neglect - she has a severe curvature in her spine, her back legs are extremely weak, and she can only walk a few metres before she has to stop and rest.
Despite her thick fluffy coat, Jet is around 10kg underweight. Her rib cage is narrow and fragile, more like that of a greyhound, because her body simply wasn’t nourished the way a growing dog needs to be.
And yet… Jet is gentle. She is trusting. She still looks to people for comfort.
We took Jet to an incredible vet who examined her and because of the potential complexity of her condition, she has now been referred to the world-renowned specialist.
But before any treatment can even be considered, Jet faces a slow and patient journey. She needs careful rehabilitation to build strength in her back legs and muscles so she can eventually walk properly again. This will take time, specialist care and significant veterinary support.
We are fully committed to giving Jet the life she should have had from the start. She deserves the chance to run, to play, and one day to find the loving forever home she has never known.
But the reality is that her treatment and rehabilitation will cost a lot, and we simply cannot do it alone.
We would never ask for help if we were not truly desperate to give this beautiful girl the future she deserves.
If you are able to donate - no matter how small - you will be helping Jet literally get back on her feet.
And if you cannot donate, please consider sharing her story. The more people who see Jet, the closer we get to giving her the life she has always deserved.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts from the small but mighty team of volunteers at RATs for caring about this truly special girl
