Help us finish Juluchuca's town plaza!

Juluchuca is a small community of about 500 people located on the coastal highway from Zihuatanejo to Acapulco. The town has always wanted to have a central plaza, or zocalo, to host community events and meetings. We are working to make that a reality.
In September 2018, a group of Juluchucans in the US raised money for the initial building phase. They were able to clear the space for the plaza and build the overaching structure over the course of two months.
Since then, funding has run out for the project. As of October 2019, the plaza remains unfinished.
Juluchuca is a vibrant community, but without a central space for all residents, the town feels fragmented and it is harder to come together for celebrations or meetings.
With the support of Playa Viva's international community, we are hoping to raise enough money to finish this project. The plaza will benefit the entire community. It will be a space to host school productions, traditional festivals, and town hall meetings. It is where people will sit and enjoy an ice cream on a hot day or where kids will enjoy playing on the swing set we hope to install.
Many of the town’s residents depend on agriculture, subsistence fishing, or a few small industries for their work. They are not able to raise the money to finish this plaza alone.
All money raised will go directly to purchase materials to finish the plaza. The town will come together to donate their time, energy, and skills to help with construction.
