Thank you so much for stopping by our GoFundMe page, one we set up to help us find the budget for an up & coming feature film project, to be shot next summer in England.
A bit of a back story: My name is Stuart Carter, I am a filmmaker from London, England. I have however spent the last few years flying from London to Madrid, from New York to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between, shooting with some awesome brands!
In 2020, I wrote a short horror film idea called "Releasing Eleanor". It was a short film at 1 hour, about a young girl who is locked away by her father, and left bound to die. Her father kills himself and the wife. I dont wanna give the whole story away and ruin it for you but lets just say... Someone, at some point... Releases the girls spirit!
I found a cast (made up of friends) and we started shooting... Then Covid hit and put a big hard stop on the entire production. We was obviously pretty bummed out about this because of all of our hard work, but it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise... You see, we have learned in that time period a few things:
1, Zero budget movies are extremely hard to make
2, Trying to make a feature length film and being in charge of Story, Cast, Locations, Sound, Visual, Catering (Insert everything else on a film set), on your own... Is even harder...
3, Asking my family & friends to drive 40 miles every other day to different locations because we couldn't afford one single location and had to use other friends houses that were available... Was also really hard.
4, Lav mics dont work well at all and we should have an actual audio guy do actual boom audio..
5, team work makes the dream work and we need that team of pro's!
As a team, we just this week spoke over Zoom and all agreed this is still to this day, an idea we absolutely cannot shake from our heads and one we still see as an incredible story. So we all signed the note! Releasing Eleanor will go into full production next Summer in August 2022! The reason for starting this GoFundMe a year early is simply because we understand these donations take time and want to give our campaign enough time to run that we hit our requested budget. This is a massive deal for us and everyone involved.
We would be absolutely, incredibly, irrevocably thankful to each and every person who donated any amount towards our feature films budget. A combination of everyones little, goes a long way! You may not ever know how much of a difference your donation has helped, but I can assure you every bit does! Plus, who doesnt love that warm glow after helping someone out in life!
To be completely transparent with you all, so you know where your donation is going, I have made a list of expenditure for you below, as we look to raise the budget and the bar this time around, we want to create a cinematic masterpiece they oozes disgusting horror:
LOCATION - Around £2,000
We will be renting an old looking house on Airbnb to use not only as one single hub for all cast & Crew to stay in for the duration of filming, but to film interior & exterior at that house in the movie as well... Alleviating us from having to drive to different places all over and only when its convenient for the owner of that property. This is a fantastic way to keep everyone from crew and cast right down to make up artists, lving on set! We do have permission from several homes to film in already and this rental is upwards of £2,000.
EQUIPMENT - Around £4,500
We shot the previous beginning version of this movie on a Panasonic GH5, with a Kit lens, and a canon R5. Which are both in reality entry level cameras. Very big believer in story being more important than gear, but a massive upgrade & overhaul will take place before then, So we will be for sure upgrading most of our equipment. The vision for thiis film is huge, so telling the story in the most cinematic fashion is important to us. The outlook is to shoot the feature on Canons C70 Cinema Line cameras and upgrade to Sigma's cinema prime lens set. We will also be recording it to an external recorder, such as the Atomos Ninja. The total cost of a C70, a Cage, V-mount batter rig & a Ninja = Roughly £4,500, so as you can see, production costs!
LIGHTING - Around £1000
We aim to use full Godox or Aperture 120d & 300d Lines. These are industry standard Lighting set ups and come in around £1000 without stands.
CREW - We know we could never pay for full production staff, we would be looking at 40k upwards for that, but we would love to pay people we know, a small amount to act as a boom operator, another cam operator & a production/project manager to help run things smoothly from a logistical point of view. I would add to this having someone who can handle all the props as well as keep tabs on the finance of the movie too. There are so many people you can bring in to play different roles on set but each is just as important as the last.
CAST - Again, we are working with a small group of actor friends but would love to be able pay them something for being part of it.
CATERING - Something we didnt do last time was take into consideration food and water and this added a cost to everyone on set having to have to get there own, or on occasion we would buy pizza and this stacked up out of my pocket. The idea is to bring a couple of people to cook three meals a day for the cast and crew during filming.
SET - Props cost money, make up costs money, we are looking for the real deal on this set. we have full freedom in these houses to decorate as we see fit, so we are looking to spend out on production value.
Bumper: The other big thing we learned was, something will always break, well always forget something... So we would like to have a contingency in place for that too.
What you will get in return for your donation to our film budget:
- Obviously a big virtual hug from all of us taking part in this project!
- Your name at the end of the movie in title credits in the "Thank you" section
- A personal digital copy of the movie sent directly to you weeks before anyone else see's it!
- The full behind the scenes digital copy.
- A Directors voice over version of the film, narrating why and how we shot certain parts.
- The full movie will be £/$1 to watch online but free for you for all time.
EDIT: If you are a company or business and would like to donate a slightly larger amount to our budget, we would be happy to create title opener shots for you (In other words, at the start of the movie, when the credits start, it will say "In Association with 'Insert your company'). Or, if you are looking to cover the budget for us in its entirety, your company would go down as the Executive Producer, the title just under the director.
We aim to shoot on 20th August, 2022 and finish around 3 weeks after. Full schedule will be created nearer the time. The movie will go up on a YouTube channel after a year of massive social media promotion (Building huge anticipation) and the video will be streamed off the movies website!
Thank you so much in advance!
