The pictures below is probably how we all know Gigi Burns, always positive and happy. After last years bout with cancer, we had thought she was doing better. She now has another battle..... Gigi has a caring & concerned extended family in France along with many family and friends across the united states that love her very much and want to know how she is doing today.
Unfortunately friends and family her cancer has returned in April 2020. We put this site together for all of us to come together and help Gigi fight this monster called cancer. At the end of this April 2020, Gigi my wife of 18 years, had started experiencing headaches and having pain that was not familiar or similar to anything she has had in the past. Immediately we informed her doctor about the symptoms, and he in turn scheduled an MRI as soon as possible for Gigi. The very next day after the MRI, we were informed of the shocking news. He informed us that she had four brain tumors that were each about 2 cm in diameter. One of them was pushing up against her lateral ventricle which could cause stroke-like catastrophic symptoms if damaged. She has been diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 breast cancer but now it has spread to areas of her brain (HERs2 +).
Our Story began almost two years before that in June of 2018, when she noticed a lump on her breast. We of course, started seeking a doctor and a treatment. Gigi began treatments shortly after and less than a year later her breast cancer became stage 4 and metastasized to different parts of her body including her spinal column. She also had a tumor on her 7th Cervical Vertebra. It became so critical at that point and we had to go to the emergency room at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in May of 2019.
It was a very difficult time but with the overwelming loving support from family & friends, we got through it. Thank you all for the spiritual, practicle & emotional support! Admitted to hospital Thankfully with chemotherapy treatment and surgery on her spinal column by a neurosurgeon, she was stabilized and began to heal. After that she continued to be treated by a caring oncologist and kept careful watch over her along with prescribing infusions every 3 weeks of cancer inhibitors. Everything seemed good for nearly a year and that brought us up to what's going on now, this April 2020. During her treatments of cancer last year. All this time we've been looking and trying to find a way that we could not only remove the cancer but also keep it from coming back in the future. This is of course the real challenge!
Now, Gigi is facing the challenge of having to go through radiation therapy and hopefully she'll have minimal side effects now and in the in the long-term. She has no choice but to move forward with a treatment called stereotactic radiation therapy, which has a high percentage of success. We are of course thankful for that and happy that our two children Lily(12) and Enzo(15) will be able to enjoy many more years with their mother. Enzo, our oldest, is very close to his mama. He looks to her for approval & to build his confidence. He wants her to see him succeed & become a mature stable adult. Lilly is very close to her mama also. Lilly confides in her mom & needs her guidance. In the future, hopefully distant future, she wants her to be there when she gets married. Of course, what I'm trying to say is that they both need there mama to be there during these crucial years & for her to see them grow for many more years.
That being said, we are seeking treatment at a clinic, possibly out of state, that will be paid out of pocket. It combines traditional western medicine along with treatments that will work along with her immune system to try to beat this cancer permanently. We are hopeful & confident that she will, but we are not out of the woods yet. Other options could still include clinical trials if necessary and even available. Therefore, we will be looking for any viable solutions with the ultimate goal of the cancer going into remission.
And just to be clear friends this GoFundMe account is specifically and only will be used for an integrated treatment for Gigi. This will hopefully prevent the cancer from returning or progressing. The plan is we'll be going to Mesa Arizona early June to a clinic that will work along with the medical protocol that her oncologist prescribed for her. I want you to know that we are not financially in trouble & please don't give if you can't afford it. Her Medical Treatments here along with all her medicine is covered by our insurance but the clinic that we seek help at is 100% out of pocket.
So we are asking for help, if possible and without any obligation, to beat this cancer permanently and provide an opportunity for Gigi to live life to the full and also for her to see her children grow up. Additionally, we would be happy to hear from anyone directly that could possibly have any information that would help. The clinic that we seek to find a solution at for Gigi is expensive but we feel that this is her best shot at this time. Malheureusement son cancer a récidivé en Avril 2020. Nous avons crée cette page pour que nous puissions tous aider Gégé à combattre ce monstre appelé cancer.
