Help Us Fight Fern Miller's (Our Nana's) Cancer

Fern "Nana" Miller was a Registered Nurse and worked as a Surgical Rehab Nurse, and Home Health Care Nurse from 1994 till 2004. In 2002 she was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting MS and had to take early medical disability retirement in 2004. Before her Nursing career, Nana was a Special Education Teacher working with children with special needs. Nana has spent her whole life helping others through difficult times.

On December 23, 2022, she was diagnosed with Stage 3B Squamous Cell Lung Cance. The two primary treatments used to fight this type of fast-moving cancer were ruled out due to her MS thus leaving Nana no other option except for chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She must complete 6 and 1/2 weeks of daily treatments, without treatment Nana only has a few mounts to survive. With treatment, Nana has a 30% chance of surviving 5 years.

Nana's first treatment started on January 31st, 2023 and the treatments have been somewhat difficult, loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue and difficulty in swallowing

Nana's doctors are concerned about her immune system and her weight loss she has lost over 30 lbs and Nana is now down to a 100lbs. The doctors are now stating if she loses any more weight they will need to place a feeding tube in her stomach to maintain her nutrition.

Nana has to be transported every day to Round Rock, Texas from Buda, Texas a 2 1/2 to 3-hour round trip depending on Austin traffic.
