Help us during Angela Sevilla's recovery

Hey everyone.

As many of you may know by now, my mother had a life changing medical emergency on July 13th. I found her passed out in her bathroom floor unconscious and unaware of what was going on. The ambulance took her to Memorial Hermann of Memorial City where she was quickly airlifted to Memorial Herman of Southwest for emergency surgery. She suffered a massive brain aneurysm and a stroke. She received two back to back surgeries that have caused a great deal of neuro trauma and pain. The neuro surgeons have mentioned it’s a miracle she’s still alive. When she arrived at their operating table, she was more dead than alive. If brain trauma is not bad enough, my mom is also dealing with the repercussions from her stroke. It has affected her left side causing her pain and impairing her mobility and movement. For those of you who know her, this has been a huge physical and mental adjustment to her high energy and independent spirit. She then spent 3 weeks in the ICU and one additional week in the hospital before being released to a rehab facility. The following two weeks she stayed at the acute facility to help transition her from a ICU setting to a rehab facility. Due to the severity of her head trauma, she was moved to a post-acute brain trauma rehab facility outside of Houston. It’s been a hard transition for all of us adjusting to all the moving parts. Mom, myself and my sister are working very hard with her and all the PTs to get her all the help she needs to get her as close to 100% recovered.

It has now been just under two months since the day everything occurred. A traumatic event that has been difficult to come to terms with. My sister and I have been doing our best to make sure all previous bills and payments are being covered, but we have ran out of our emergency funds and are now needing help. For those of you who unfortunately been through this, you know it takes a while to hear back from the disability and social security office. We are hoping once she is approved, that help will alleviate some of the financial responsibility my sister and I have taken over with her house and medical expenses. Mom has always been the type of person to be there for others. She has spent her whole life making sure everyone was safe and secure. She opened the doors to her home to many family, friends and even strangers. She always had a helping heart and never turned down anybody who was in need. Even now, as she is recovering, she is always asking to make sure everyone is Ok, everything is being taken care of and making sure her family and friends are happy and healthy.

As much as we were hoping to handle it all and be able to pay her expenses and our own, my sister and I have reached a point where it’s time to ask for help. I have taken the responsibility of keeping her household afloat and helping with my niece and nephew. My sister has moved into the rehab facility with mom five days a week to help her out and assist with things I cannot help with. As you can imagine, all of this is a huge adjustment to mom, her kids and her grandkids and affects us a lot. We hope one day soon mom can move forward with her life and have that independence she’s always had. We know we may never be able to repay everyone who has helped out so far in one way or another. As we mentioned, we are still in the process to be approved for her disability and social security and have downsized and eliminated unnecessary expenses. But the bills are pilling up and we are working hard to find alternatives for funds but are losing that battle. We know this won’t be forever and things will get better.

We thank you all again for taking the time to read and helping out.
