A few days after Charlie came to stay with me and my girlfriend our family faced a heartbreaking loss. We had welcomed her into our home while my mother in-law, Shelly Clutter, sorted out housing for Angelic. Charlie brought so much comfort and light during that week—until an accident with my roommates’ bullmastiff turned our world upside down.

Charlie was playing safely in our room when the other dog burst in unsupervised. Startled, Charlie tried to defend herself and was gravely injured. We raced her to the emergency vet with hope in our hearts, but her injuries—a broken pelvis and punctured intestines—were too severe. To spare her any more pain, we made the agonizing decision to say goodbye.

For the last seven months, Shelly fought CPS sober, determined to bring Angelic home. When custody was finally reinstated, CPS ruled that my brother in-law couldn’t live in the apartment or be around Angelic. my brother in-law refused to move out, forcing Shelly and Angelic to stay with Shellys Sister temporarily while she scrambles to secure a new one-bedroom apartment—all so that my brother in-law won’t jeopardize Angelic’s safety again.

Charlie wasn’t just a pet. She was the reason mother in-law stayed focused on her sobriety, the soft place Angelic rested her head, and a beloved member of our family. Now, we need your help to:
