Help Us Complete the ASIKAM Project in Ghana

The year 2022 began with chaos, from the Haitian prime minister surviving an assassination attempt, to threats of a new covid variant omicron, and now a Russian - Ukrainian War causing an imminent world war. —--Although these events are horrific the world still moves. People are still expected to go to school, work, and take care of their children. In Ghana, however, the struggles of maintaining a livelihood which was already difficult and now with competing world trauma, makes it even more strenuous for communities that are under-resourced even more overwhelmed.

According to a Senior Lecturer at the University of Development Studies, Dr. Haruna Issahaku the 2022 budget set for the education department is 2.2 million Ghana cedis which are 3.6% of the total government spending which fails to meet the UNESCO threshold of spending at least 4% of public expenditure on education. The effects of this shortage are evident with unfinished projects, lack of material, and ultimately a decrease in school enrollment.

The Asikam Project is one that our organization, Van Moorhouse Foundation , hopes to complete with the help of supporters like you. VMF was founded in January 2018 and believes that a single action can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world through education equity and health advocacy.

During our team’s visit to the Asikam School, we identified an empty classroom designated for a computer laboratory but had no computers. The ICT teacher only presents an illustration of tech resources in an abstract format during ICT teaching and assimilation. Our interactions with the students showed just a little theoretical knowledge about imaginary computers they had just read about in books but never seen. Giving access to over 650 pupils who attend primary school through Technology is a beacon of hope for the low earning income families. Our team, touched by this educational experience, decided to solicit for funding to renovate and equip a computer laboratory for the school.

With the help of one of our sponsors, the Swiss Embassy in Ghana, we have completed all the renovations needed to build the IT room however we need extra help to complete the remainder of the project which consists of acquiring and installing 20 computers. Will you stand with us in making a great impact in the world by supporting our vision to complete the Asikam project so that students can learn from real computers and not make belief illustrations by ?
