Help Us Buy Our Un-School

Deep Root Center (DRC) is a Self Directed Center for Learning that started in January 2014 in Canton with one woman's amazing vision to bring expanded services to youth who don't do well in a traditional educational setting. Our Centers provide a safe environment where they can access resources and materials they may not have at home and enjoy the socialization offered in a more traditional school setting. This year I was hired to run DRC East, our satellite Center in North Lawrence. We are currently renting a beautiful old building that was updated and renovated 8 years ago and is for sale. Our Crew at DRC East has taken ownership of some of the responsibility for fundraising enough to make this place our new permanent home, but we sure could use a little help. These kids deserve a stable, safe place to further their educations and plan for their futures with Mentors and Volunteers around them to support them in their dreams.

T came to us at the age of 5 and was completely nonverbal. Today he's 7, and we have serious concerns about him talking someone's ear off!

C came to us last year and was reading at a second-grade level. Today he's reading at a seventh-grade reading level.

K struggled in traditional school because she traveled with her Father for work and was constantly behind the standard requirements. She joins us by video to take the classes she enjoys and loves school now.

I can tell you stories about each of the 40 kids that we share between our two Centers - but I'm sure that you get the idea.
