<div>I’m Esmeralda Martin, and I’m writing to ask for your support. My three siblings and I are fighting to bring our mom and dad back home. They are both currently in ICE custody. Donations, prayers and sharing this will be deeply appreciated.

<div>On June 19, 2026, my mom, Alejandra Santiago, left for work at 5AM. As she was leaving our neighborhood, she noticed four vehicles following closely, and within minutes she was cornered on all sides, forcing her to pull over. ICE agents forced her out of her car and began to question her. Who did she live with? Was she married? What was her husband’s name? Did she have children? Where did they live? Afraid, my mom tried to call a family member, and immediately the ICE agents snatched her phone, handcuffed her, and shoved her into one of their vehicles as if she were a criminal, despite having a clean record.

<div>Then all four ICE vehicles, with my mom trapped in one of them, drove back to our home. They waited for my dad, Victor Martin, to pull out of our driveway, and once on the road, they aggressively tailgated him on all sides until he was forced to stop. They arrested him as well, leaving me and my three siblings alone.

<div>That morning, my brother Jose, 24, and I, 22, received a call from our mom and dad, saying: “Come pick up our car keys. Take care of your siblings. We love you….” I could not believe this was happening and in an instant the foundation of our family life was deeply shaken. Since that day, my brother Jose, our two younger siblings, ages 14 and 12, and I have lived in the uncertainty of this new and brutal reality.

<div>Our parents are our source of support, care, and love. And their detainment has left my brother Jose and me with immense responsibilities: to pay for attorney fees, maintain a mortgage and household bills, cover groceries and daily necessities, as well as care for our younger siblings who have pending medical appointments. The financial and emotional strain incurred by their detention is something that we never expected to face, and it has been an extremely difficult time.

<div>Just the other day, as one of my cousins was paying for our meals, I kept wondering whether I could save my portion for later, for my younger siblings. Thoughts like these come to mind often because I’m terrified at the prospect of them not having their next meal – it has been the generosity of our cousins that has kept us fed. My income, coupled with my brother’s, has all gone towards paying for our mortgage this month, and it has barely covered a portion of the attorney fees which are quickly mounting.

<div>Therefore, faced with an unstable future and longing for our parents’ return, my siblings and I kindly ask for your support. No donation is too small. No prayer goes unheard.

<div>God is close to those who grieve, and we trust that He is near, especially with our parents who are currently held in Stewart Detention Center. He led them to the US as a young couple seeking a better future, and over the course of 24 years, they’ve built a family, contributed to the Atlanta community, and established roots in a country they’ve come to know as their home. And now our home is incomplete without them. Help us bring them back.

<div>El 19 de junio de 2026, mi mamá, Alejandra Santiago, salió a trabajar a las 5 de la mañana. Al salir de nuestro vecindario, notó que cuatro vehículos la seguían de cerca y, en cuestión de minutos, se vio acorralada por todos lados, obligándola a detenerse. Agentes de ICE la sacaron a la fuerza del auto y comenzaron a interrogarla. ¿Con quién vive? ¿Está casada? ¿Cómo se llama su marido? ¿Tiene hijos? ¿Dónde viven? Asustada, mi mamá intentó llamar a un familiar, e inmediatamente los agentes de ICE le arrebataron el teléfono, la esposaron y la metieron a la fuerza en uno de sus vehículos como si fuera una criminal, a pesar de tener un historial limpio.

<div>Entonces, los cuatro vehículos de la policía de inmigración, con mi madre atrapada en uno de ellos, regresaron a nuestra casa. Esperaron a que mi padre, Víctor Martín, saliera de la entrada, y una vez en la carretera, lo siguieron agresivamente por todos lados hasta que se vio obligado a detenerse. También lo arrestaron, dejándonos solos a mis tres hermanos y a mí.

<div>Esa mañana, mi hermano José, de 24 años, y yo, de 22, recibimos una llamada de nuestra mamá y papá que decían: “Vengan a recoger las llaves de los carros. Cuiden de sus hermanos. Los queremos…”. No podía creer lo que estaba sucediendo y, en un instante, los cimientos de nuestra vida familiar se vieron profundamente sacudidos. Desde ese día, mi hermano José, nuestros dos hermanos menores, de 14 y 12 años, y yo hemos vivido en la incertidumbre de esta nueva y brutal realidad.

<div>Nuestros padres son nuestra fuente de apoyo, cariño y amor. Su detención nos ha dejado a mi hermano José y a mí con enormes responsabilidades: pagar los honorarios de los abogados, la hipoteca y las facturas del hogar, la comida y las necesidades básicas, además de cuidar a nuestros hermanos menores que tienen citas médicas pendientes. La tensión económica y emocional que conlleva su detención es algo que jamás imaginamos, y ha sido un momento extremadamente difícil.

Estos pensamientos me vienen a la mente a menudo porque me aterra la idea de que no tengan qué comer – ha sido la generosidad de nuestras primas la que nos ha permitido alimentarnos. Mis ingresos, junto con los de mi hermano, se han destinado por completo a pagar la hipoteca este mes, y apenas han cubierto una parte de los honorarios de los abogados, que se acumulan rápidamente.

<div>Dios está cerca de quienes sufren, y confiamos en que Él está cerca, especialmente de nuestros padres, quienes se encuentran detenidos en el Centro de Detención de Stewart. Él los guió a los Estados Unidos cuando eran una pareja joven en busca de un futuro mejor, y a lo largo de 24 años, han formado una familia, contribuido a la comunidad de Atlanta y echado raíces en un país que ahora consideran su hogar.
