Re/String: New Music for Guitar Duo

Steve Cowan and Adam Cicchillitti are developing a new project to commission six works for two guitars and chamber orchestra in collaboration with Ottawa-based chamber orchestra Thirteen Strings and the guitar festival Guitare Alla Grande.  As part of this exciting new project, Steve and Adam are actively engaged in commissioning Canada's finest composers to write new music for the guitar - for every dollar that is raised, SOCAN will match the contribution up to a total of $3,000.00 CAD and every cent of the money that we raise will be used to pay the composers.

The artists that we are hiring to write music for this project are: Amy Brandon, Stephen Goss, Kelly-Marie Murphy, Patrick Roux, Bekah Simms and Harry Stafylakis. 

Our goal is to expand the considerably small guitar and chamber orchestra repertoire, compensate composers fairly for their work and bring new Canadian music to the forefront of the relatively unexplored idiom. The performances will be recorded live by Drew Henderson and composers will be interviewed to create a short documentary of the artistic process of from the original concept to realization of the final product. Considering the enormous costs that will be associated with commissioning, recording and touring these new works, we would be greatly appreciative of any financial contribution, however small, towards making this project a reality!
