Help us please bring Karen home and help support her orphaned sons and parents

The snapshot below bespeaks the unimaginable horror – our beloved Karen, a devoted mom, blood soaking her shirt, reaching for the wounds to her neck, carrying her son to the arms of a neighbor – moments before being shot to death. And in that instant, gone for all eternity, was Karen’s sweet voice, a smile that could light up a room, and a caring, generous heart. We lost someone very dear to us in a tragedy that should have never happened.
Karen Gotidoc Lopez, age 34, beloved daughter, sister, cousin, friend, niece and mother of two, was stabbed and shot to death by her ex-husband following an argument on the street where she lived in Las Vegas on April 25th. The brave actions of an armed neighbor brought the incident to an end and prevented any further harm or loss of life. Kelvin, the four year old son she treasured, unfortunately witnessed everything. Karen’s boys will grow up without parents especially the Mom who doted on him endlessly. We can only hope Kelvin has some meaningful memory of his mother’s tender voice and loving attention before last Thursday.
As if that weren’t enough loss, Karen’s devotion to family extended to her older son in the Philippines as well as her retired parents – for you see, Karen not only worked tirelessly for her sons, she was also the primary financial provider to her parents as well – diligently sending them money twice each month. All of this love, generosity and support died when the light left Karen’s eyes last Thursday.
Needless to say, we who knew her are heartbroken and devastated by Karen’s untimely death, but we will and must stay strong for those she left behind especially her sons and elderly parents back in the Philippines whom Karen can no longer support. The Gotidoc family’s loss of Karen is devastating beyond words.
This GoFundMe campaign is to help raise money for Karen’s family so they can (i) cover expenses for a dignified funeral and her return to the Philippines so her family can see her one last time (ii) provide support for her two sons, Kelvin (4) and Batotoy (10), who need more help now than ever; and (iii) provide support to Karen’s devastated parents, Mr. Genaro (70) and Mrs. Marilyn (63) Gotidoc.

The family is making funeral arrangements and will update this page as to when and where. Needless to say, Karen’s family was completely unprepared for this catastrophe.
