<div>I wish I didn't have to write this but I want to try and help my mom in any way I can. On July 24th I received the most terrifying call while at work from my step dad telling me my mom was being rushed to Jersey shore medical center for some type of neurological event. Not knowing what had happened, I immediately rushed to the hospital from work and walked in to the ER to see a team of what seemed like 20+ nurses and doctors surrounding my mom who was now unresponsive. They told us the paramedics said she had a seizure in the ambulance after being taken for what we believe was another seizure at home. The doctors stated they would have to intubate her to protect her airway in the event of possibly having another seizure. After intubation they quickly took her for a CT scan which showed she has a large 7cm AVM (Arteriovenous malformation) in her left temporal lobe which was probably what caused the seizures. My mom also has an AVM in her right hand that she has had many procedures for and has lived with for the last 35 years. Only about 1% of the population are affected by an AVM, so having 2 is even more rare.

<div>She was kept sedated and taken to the ICU where she stayed for a few days until they could safely extubate her. During the course of her stay in the ICU they decided to do an angiogram to further look at the AVM, which also showed a 7mm aneurysm in the center of her brain. At this point we decided we wanted her to see the best possible doctor and requested a transfer to Mt Sinai in New York. (My mom had previously seen a doctor in New York for the AVM in her hand, and we knew this would be the only doctor she would trust to deal with any type of neurosurgery.)

<div>After waiting 5 days in Jersey shore, she was finally approved for the transfer and taken via ambulance to Mt Sinai.
</div>
<div>When she arrived at Mt Sinai they did their own CT scan and testing to ensure she did not have any bleeding in her brain and finally decided they would want to see her as an outpatient so they could have time to plan her treatment.
</div>
<div>As of today 8/15, we finally have the beginning steps of her treatment plan. On August 27th we will be traveling back to New York for her to have a mesh device placed in the aneurysm to prevent any ruptures or bleeding. From there she will need continued follow ups and further treatments to hopefully shrink the AVM, which the doctors have said they have no definitive length of treatment at this time.

<div>I am starting this Go fund me to assist with not only travel expenses back and forth to NY for my parents but also possible hotel stays for my step dad so he can be nearby for her overnight after her procedures. (The hospital will not let him stay with her overnight). My mom has not been able to work since this has started on July 24th and does not know when she will be able to return to work. As you could imagine her regular bills are starting to pile up as well as medical bills. We are all terrified as we do not know how long she may have to face this, and any little bit will help. If you cannot donate please share. If you can't or just aren't the sharing type, please keep my mom and my entire family in your prayers. My mom is my absolute best friend and I want to try anything I can to take any bit of stress away from her during this unimaginable time.
