<div>My name is Yatziry Garcia, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my mother, Sara Yazmin Garcia, and our family during one of the hardest times we have ever faced.

<div>On Friday, May 15, 2026, my mother was arrested, and due to her immigration status in the United States, she was taken into ICE custody on Sunday, May 17, 2026. She is currently being held in Atlanta, Georgia over seven hours away from her family, friends, and the life she built here for more than 20 years.

<div>The last time I was able to hug my mother was on May 9th. I never imagined that would be the last time I would see her before everything changed.
</div>

<div>My mother leaves behind her 15-year-old son, Edwin Martinez, her husband Francisco Martinez — her partner of 21 years and husband of 10 years — and an entire family that depends on her emotionally and financially. She is also deeply loved by her mother, a breast cancer survivor, her siblings, nieces, nephews, and countless friends all over.

<div>The moment that continues to replay in my mind is hearing that while she was being stopped, my mother begged the officer, saying, “Can I please just go pick up my son from school first?” That moment broke my heart because it perfectly describes the kind of mother she is. Even in one of the scariest moments of her life, her only concern was making sure her child was safe.

<div>My mother is not a criminal. She has no criminal record and has spent over two decades working hard, caring for others, and building a life centered around family, faith, sacrifice, and love. Anyone who truly knows her knows she is one of the most caring, respectful, and selfless people you could ever meet.

<div>Growing up with her was the greatest blessing of my life. No matter how difficult life became, she always found a way to provide for us, support others, and put everyone before herself. She taught us what unconditional love looks like through her actions every single day.
</div>

<div>One of the greatest examples of her character was the way she cared for my grandmother during her battle with breast cancer. My mother drove nearly two hours to Wilmington every week for chemotherapy appointments, never complaining and never missing a visit. She often brought my younger brother with her before he was even old enough to start school because family always came first to her. She has always shown us what it means to be a loving daughter, mother, wife, sister, and friend.

<div>She has spent years helping others whenever she could whether it was supporting family members, helping friends in difficult times, serving others through her faith, or simply being the person everyone could rely on. She has always opened her heart and home to those in need. She is the kind of person who gives without expecting anything in return.

<div>Today, our family is asking for compassion, prayers, and support. The emotional pain of being separated from our mother has been overwhelming, and we are also facing significant legal and travel expenses as we try to fight for her and keep our family together.

<div>La última vez que pude abrazar a mi mamá fue el 9 de mayo. Nunca imaginé que ese sería el último abrazo antes de que nuestras vidas cambiaran por completo.

<div>Mi mamá deja atrás a su hijo de 15 años, Edwin Martinez, a su esposo Francisco Martinez su compañero de vida por 21 años y esposo por 10 años y a una familia entera que depende de ella emocional y económicamente. También es profundamente amada por su mamá, sobreviviente de cáncer de seno, por sus hermanos, hermanas, sobrinos, sobrinas y por muchas personas.

<div>El momento que más me rompe el corazón es saber que mientras la estaban deteniendo, mi mamá le suplicó al oficial diciendo: “Por favor, ¿puedo ir primero a recoger a mi hijo de la escuela me esta esperando?” Ese momento describe perfectamente el tipo de madre que ella es. Incluso en uno de los momentos más difíciles y aterradores de su vida, su única preocupación era asegurarse de que su hijo estuviera bien.

<div>Mi mamá no es una criminal. No tiene antecedentes penales y ha pasado más de dos décadas trabajando arduamente, cuidando de otros y construyendo una vida basada en la familia, la fe, el sacrificio y el amor. Toda persona que la conoce sabe que es una de las personas más humildes, respetuosas y bondadosas que existen.

<div>Crecer con una mamá como ella ha sido la mayor bendición de mi vida. Sin importar las dificultades, siempre encontraba la manera de salir adelante, apoyar a otros y poner las necesidades de los demás antes que las suyas. Ella nos enseñó lo que significa el amor incondicional con sus acciones todos los días.

<div>Uno de los mayores ejemplos de la persona que ella es fue la manera en que cuidó a mi abuela durante su batalla contra el cáncer de seno. Mi mamá manejaba casi dos horas hasta Wilmington cada semana para llevarla a sus quimioterapias, sin quejarse y sin faltar a una sola cita. Muchas veces llevaba a mi hermanito con ella antes de que él tuviera la edad suficiente para entrar a la escuela, porque para ella la familia siempre ha sido primero. Ella nos enseñó con el ejemplo lo que significa ser una buena hija, madre, esposa, hermana y amiga.

<div>Durante toda su vida ha ayudado a los demás siempre que ha podido apoyando a familiares, ayudando a amistades en momentos difíciles, sirviendo a otros a través de su fe y siendo esa persona en la que todos pueden confiar. Siempre ha abierto su corazón y su hogar para ayudar a quien lo necesite. Es el tipo de persona que da todo sin esperar nada a cambio.
