Help Urska Zagar as she fights cervical cancer

This always smiling, beautiful, bubbly woman is our beloved mother, wife, friend, Urska. Urska has always been the one to do the right thing and support others in everything they choose. The always happy and healthy woman we once knew has recently been faced with a familiar adversity that began a few years ago.

Her story begins here; at the young age of 24 she moved from Europe to the west coast of the United States in search of better lives for her two children Meta and Tim. Raised through hardships she had always been a fighter and fought every day alongside her husband, Branko, to provide for her two young kids. Always sacrificing the most for her family, the year 2015 put her strength to the test. A cervical cancer diagnosis put her life on hold. Not letting anything get her down during the entire process and recovery she strived to spread happiness and positivity everyday thereafter. Being the amazing character that she is the next two years after a hysterectomy were filled with enjoyment, family life, and a cancer free diagnosis throughout! On the day of her last routine checkup in June 2018, after only good news for nearly three full years, bad news eventually reared its head, a recurrence of cervical cancer; this time it could not be surgically removed. So forth came a treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation that should be effective to kill the remaining cancer cells. Radiation and Chemo treatment began in July of 2018 and lasted for three months on a daily basis, where at the end of it she was proclaimed cancer free again! After a positive checkup late 2018, plans were made to attend her best friend’s wedding back in Europe in August of 2019. All that was standing in the way now was another checkup scheduled in March 2019 and July 2019. March 2019 posed its own challenges with an initial recurrence diagnosis via scan, but a biopsy later nullified the results by coming back negative. That had put all of her family on edge because the diagnosis was of metastatic cervical cancer that had spread through her lymphatic system, a very serious diagnosis. Come July 2019 and the bad news obtained three months prior came to fruition, doctors had determined that the diagnosis in March was correct and action needed to be immediate. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 cervical cancer. Immediately she sought a second opinion in Huston, TX, but the diagnosis concurrent. She began treatment in Salt Lake City that is still going to last through November. After the completion of this chemo she will immediately transition into Avastin (targeted imuno-therapy) treatment which she will undergo for the rest of her life. While going through all these treatments, CT scans, MRI scans, surgeries, various specialist visits, second opinion visits and physical therapy, she also developed Lymphedema (blockage of Lymph vessels), Thrombuses (TBD-Blood clot in leg), Hematuria (blood and blood clots in urine), and many other mild Chemo side effects.

With the bills of treatment, travel, and housing mounting it has been increasingly difficult for Urska and Branko to provide for their family and even themselves. With two adult children attending college and only Branko working full time the financial situation has become too difficult to manage. To help make ends meet Urska has been occasionally working at Teton Tails, a local owned pet store in Jackson, WY. She has grown a popularity at the store with many customers bringing in their pets for her to play with and destress. She claims that she doesn’t need an emotional support because of all the happy dogs and cats she says everyday make her day brighter. We feel blessed by each and every one of you who has put forth an effort to share a little brightness with Urska and her family during her extensive battle with cancer. While she remains positive every day and stronger than ever it has become the duty of her family to take on financial responsibility hereon. We would like to ease the burden of stress to worry about the bills that they piled up over these years and just focus on her and making a good recovery.

“My mom has been a fighter her whole life. She definitely hasn't had it easy, but no matter how tough it would get she always had a smile on her face. She has taught me and my brother how to be strong and how to be brave. She is my best friend and my role model. And it pains me to see her going through this again.” -Meta (Urska’s Daughter)

We would like to help out our family much more than we are currently, so we were presented with this unique opportunity to surprise Urska and ease the mental burden of the horrible process of treating cancer. We would like to invite you to contribute any amount to this GoFundMe campaign to help Urska with her financial battles as she fights her way through cancer a third time. Urska is inspired everyday by a quote from her favorite celebrity Ellen DeGeneres; “It makes a big difference in your life when you stay positive.” And stay positive she has.

Much love and appreciation,

Team Urska!
