My friend Raymond is the father of 5 growing children, ages 2, 6, 8, 8 and 10. He has worked 6 days a week at a grocery store for 12 years. He and his wife Elizabeth have been saving for years to be able to one day start a business of their own. Due to the pandemic, his hours were reduced and their children have been home from school. They are in a position to distribute food boxes to families who have been affected by the lockdown, while establishing their position in the local market. Their long term goal for their market is better prices for customers through subscriptions and co-op style memberships, and charity for needy families. This is an opportunity for a big kindness that will have lasting effects. Children and pregnant mothers are especially affected by undernourishment and food shortages and this family will be able to purchase foods in bulk, negotiate with farmers and local wholesalers to distribute the food boxes that will save lives and nourish growing developing brains of school children and babies. For a family of 6we have calculated the cost of essential foods including fruits and vegetables, beans, rice, oil, salt, sugar, cornmeal and some soap will cost about $40 CAD or $30 USD for 1 week. Boxes will be packaged according to family size and delivered to their door. Local farmers will benefit, and the community will move forward with a new type of market and recovery that their own government has been unable to provide. I personally know this family, their work ethic and their values. We are asking not from an organization (though if anyone knows how to establish non-profit status for this project, please contact me).  We have long term goals of distributing to needy families through the co-op market delivery system, ensuring food is never wasted and maximum community impact is achieved. Please help with as much as you are able to, keeping in mind the family impact. Some of these families will have had very little food for months and possibly no vegetables or fruit. Thank you!
