Help Tyrone native get back on track

Donation protected
Just wanted to share a quick update with all our donors. Patrick Hamilton was discharged from the nursing facility on March 21st, 2021. Using the funds donated, he was able to employ three carers who looked after him until his departure to Ireland on March 28th, 2021. In addition the funds allowed him to comply with recommendations of his medical team and purchase the necessary medical equipment required for travel including a portable oxygen concentrator. In order to provide accountability and transparency, an itemized expenditure report will be made available to all donors in due course. I assure you Patrick is thankful to be home and is good hands. He sends his heartfelt thanks to all who donated, both friends and strangers, who made his dream of returning to Ireland possible.

I thought it might be appropriate to post this information and request for an Irish friend in dire need. He is 71 years old and had slipped off the radar for quite a few years. He became homeless but a man and his wife, who used to go listen to him play music in Marin, rescued him off the streets. They converted a shed at their house and gave him a roof over his head. My friend became their carer as they were elderly but he subsequently became ill himself and couldn't care for them any longer. Things went downhill quickly and my friend developed cancer and COPD. We only became aware of his circumstances around April of 2020. We have been trying to help him get his life back on track. He has been sober for around 20 years which is amazing. He is very proud and wouldn't ask for help, surviving on $190 of food stamps per month. I assisted him with Social Security application which should be finalized any day. Unfortunately, his oxygen tank ignited a few weeks before Christmas and he sustained serious burns. He is currently being treated at St Francis hospital in San Francisco. The elderly gentleman who welcomed him into his home passed away a few months ago and his wife is very unwell. My friend does not have a home to go to at he moment. He will be discharged in about a weeks time and will be in medical respite care in San Francisco for one month. We are working on finding him housing following that. However, at present he literally has only the hospital gown he is wearing. This gentleman has a heart bigger than anyone I know. As a musician he played at numerous fundraisers over the years. He also played for free in many hospital and nursing homes.

He is feeling very vulnerable but I assured him there is a community filled with compassion and generosity who will help him. He requires many basic items to get back on his feet, many of which have been donated by the kind community in San Francisco, and any donations that can help him re-establish his life would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Several people are working hard in the background to get this great guy back on track. he has expressed his gratitude and I know he would send the same sentiment to anyone out there who helps. The fund will be managed through a trust to ensure accountability.

We have omitted our friend's identity in an effort to preserve his dignity, but if any potential donors would like to confirm the legitimacy of the fundraiser, then please contact me.

Take care and stay safe.
