My name is Trey Tangeman, Im a substitute teacher in North Carolina, and I am raising funds to cover attorney’s fees and litigation costs in connection with my civil case against CARCHEX and American Auto Shield. After purchasing a vehicle service contract marketed as comprehensive protection, my car suffered a major failure that should have been covered. My claim was denied without a meaningful investigation. In fact, as alleged in my complaint, the company acknowledged to the North Carolina Attorney General's Office that “a claim file was not started.” When I pressed for answers and accountability, I was met with obstruction. My complaint details how a supervisor at American Auto Shield stood by the non-investigation and stated plainly “This is America. Sue us if you want.” In a separate call, my request to a CARCHEX legal representative for a written record of our discussion was flatly refused just before the call was abruptly terminated. Me and my wife, an immigrant who just got her green card and is similarly starting out life here, have been stranded with either no or unsafe transportation for 50+ days.

My lawsuit alleges this is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of algorithmic discrimination where consumers are sold written coverage, only to have claims denied based on undisclosed internal rules. My case alleges that this practice leaves North Carolina families without the protection they were promised, undermining the purpose of our consumer protection laws. As a philosophy student and substitute teacher in North Carolina, I believe it’s important to stand up for fairness. I have taken this case as far as I can on my own, but to continue against multiple corporate law firms, funded by deep pockets of a dynasty built on usury. I need to retain experienced consumer-protection counsel and cover the significant costs of litigation. Your support will help level the playing field and fund the legal resources needed to seek justice. Their nominalism is their indictment.

"Contracts should be entirely free from double-dealing: the seller must not impose upon the bidder, nor the buyer upon one that bids against him." — Cicero (quoted by St. Thomas Aquinas)

Donations are not tax-deductible, as this is a personal fundraiser. Any funds raised in excess of actual litigation costs will first be returned to donors on a pro-rata basis. If returning excess funds to individual donors proves impossible or impractical (for example, due to platform limitations or donor anonymity), the remaining excess will be donated to the National Consumer Law Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports consumer rights.

"It is altogether sinful to have recourse to deceit in order to sell a thing for more than its just price, because this is to deceive one's neighbor so as to injure him." ... "If the seller be aware of a fault in the thing he is selling, he is guilty of a fraudulent sale, so that the sale is rendered unlawful." ... "If anyone knowingly make use of a faulty measure in selling, he is guilty of fraud, and the sale is illicit." ... "For instance, if a man sell an unhealthy animal as being a healthy one: and if anyone do this knowingly he is guilty of a fraudulent sale, and the sale, in consequence, is illicit." — St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica II-II, Q. 77

Any contribution is deeply appreciated. Your donation is a gift and not an investment. Donors will not receive any share of any settlement or judgment. Donations do not grant any control over the case, its strategy, or settlement decisions; all decisions will be made by me and my legal counsel. Your donation does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and any lawyer who represents me. Funds will be used for attorney’s fees and litigation-related costs (e.g., court filing fees, deposition costs, expert expenses). There is no guarantee of success; your donation supports the effort to seek justice, not the purchase of a result. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.
