Help Tom Durrill - Green Ridge, MO

On Tuesday Oct. 9th at approximately 9am, Tom Durrill, a city employee for Green Ridge, MO was power washing a shelter house roof in the city park when he slipped on something on the roof and fell.  Tom laid on the roof for an unknown amount of time unable to move his limbs or speak loud enough for anyone to hear.  A city policeman found him and got emergency medical personnel on the site.  Due to Tom being on the roof, with a spinal injury, the evacuation took a significant amount of time.  Tom is now paralyzed and in Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

What you should know, Tom is my life-long, childhood friend.  We attended a small rural school in Green Ridge, MO with a graduating class of 28 kids.  Tom remained in our hometown, married a girl from Green Ridge, Kim Callahan and raised his family.  He worked with his father running the family carpet cleaning business for 22 years and then became a city employee, serving the community he has loved all his life.  Tom and Kim have two children and have also raised a nephew and now raising their grandson, who suffered a traumatic brain injury two years ago.

Above are the facts, but what really matters is this man is just one of those people that, for their entire life has given to others.  In high school, he was one of handful of people that would also help with the bake sale, the senior breakfast, the car wash ---you name it.  He continued serving his community by serving at New Hope Baptist Church as a RA (boys group) leader, serving his community as a volunteer firefighter and as the head of maintenance for Green Ridge, MO.  He never met a stranger and is such a good, kind soul. Tom would go without something he needed to help someone.  Tom's wife is an administrative assistant at Show Me Christian Youth home.  This is a rural, middle class family, doing their best to provide for their family.  Tom is the major bread-winner and this accident is financially devastating for their family.

Tom's medical future is unknown at this time, he is currently paralyzed and unable to move or walk.  His family's needs are great, traveling 81 miles one-way to the hospital, raising their 16 year-old grandson and maintaining their home.

Please, search your heart and give, the need is great and this is truly a good man and family that have always helped others.  It's our opportunity to give back.
