Help Tokyo fight FIP
Hi my name is Maryam and I got this beautiful Ragdoll kitty in September. She’s my only and ever cat. Sadly, at the middle of November she started to act lazy and ate less and less, then she got severe fever (40.7, which for cats normal temperature is 38-39.2). Finally I took her to the vet on November 19, and they told us it could be infection and inflammation. I spent $3100 for all the testing (bloodwork, CBC, blood panel, Fever of Unknown Origin, ultrasound, etc.) however Tokyo didn’t get better and days after she started to breathe quickly and shortly. After getting the results of bloodwork, they suspected FIP (Feline Infection Peritonitis) but after getting the ultrasound’s results they said she has pleural fluid in her chest and abdomen and that was when we heard the horrible news and Tokyo was diagnosed with wet FIP (on December 9th), a fatal cat disease and she didn’t have a chance of survival since there was no treatment known to cure FIP(cat’s coronavirus). She is only 6 months old.
I was devastated. I prayed for a miracle. The vet told me the only thing left was to put Tokyo to sleep to avoid all the pain of this horrible disease. I searched on the internet while asking God to help me to save Tokyo and my prayers were listened. About 3 years ago Dr. Pedersen found a cure. For now the treatment hasn’t been approved and it’s in experimental stage, however so many cats have been cured and FIP is not longer a cat death sentence. The treatment is 84 days of injections followed by 84 days of observation. During those weeks, blood work needs to be done to check how the cat is reacting to the treatment ($1200(tests)+$1700 for ultrasound). It’s a very expensive medication, 5ml vials $130. Tokyo is taking 1.6ml every night, and we are on day 11. We have 73 more days to go ($3200 plus injection supplies). I need help to finish the treatment. I’m a full-time MASc student at Queen’s, and I don’t have a job right now. (I’m asking for $4000 since I’m looking for a part time job to be able to cover the other $2100 in the next two months).
