Help Me Become a Full Time Circus Artist

Donation protected
Hello! I’m Toffy - an 33 year young part time acrobat and part time project manager in Amsterdam. But I’m here because I want to become a  full time professional circus performer in London.  Watch my story.

Why should you support me?

Because the world needs more magic. And circus can bring just that—both in those who perform it, and in those who watch it. I am very hardworking circus performer and coach. My vision is to bring a little bit of joy and excitement into people's lives. It is my passion to help people grow, spark imagination and see their life from a new perspective. Circus arts make all of this possible., They combine artistic and visual storytelling with high-skill acrobatics, creating powerful, empathetic performances that ignite the imagination and wonder in the public as well as the performers..

Your donation will support me in the initial year of transitioning into my circus career so that I can create commercial performances and train full time at the National Center for Circus Arts (NCCA).

When does the campaign end?
The campaigns ends with the big show in August. Make sure that you donate and get your tickets before Saturday, August 24th.

Where will the money go?

Well, it will cover the essentials. The tuition for the school is mostly covered by my savings, and from selling all the stuff I won’t be needing..

So, basically...

Moving to London
Tuition (the part that’s not covered yet)),
Circus material (silks, books, ticket to circus shows, costume),
Rent (in a shared flat)
Flights to London (to get to the school)
Insurances (to make sure that I'm covered: it’s a high-risk job that I'm training for!)
Food (for this I’m also planning to find a side job. But my full-time job will be to train and learn! If we go over the funding goal, all the exceeding money will be donated to this Platform and to NCCA)

I am not eligible for student loans and most scholarships as I already have a first university education (which I am very thankful for, as it made it possible for me to move to Berlin and discover my passion).

Why have I decided I NEED to do this now?? (Long Version)

My journey has been quite different from what you’d expect a circus performer’s journey to be. I did not start training as a child, nor was I born into a circus family. No such luck. Mom says she has no idea where I got this passion from. I am not the black sheep in my family but I'm certainly the only sheep wearing spandex.

Ever since I was a kid I’ve admired acrobats and their ability to spark magic with their incredible skills. . I always loved to move and dance but was too shy to take the calling from my heart seriously. Instead I became a project manager. I was still quietly living a circus life... but only in my dreams.

And then one day, everything changed.

Under a wash of rich blue purple circus lights I sat perfectly still, thrilled by the brilliant acrobats as they performed their hard-won and often dangerous skills. Dancers in silk, benders and binders of flesh fearlessly flying at such dizzying heights it made my heart crack. I sat frozen, in tears, in a world of strength and beauty. And I wished the show would never end. In that moment I heard a voice. "This is your home. This is how you were meant to live. To touch people's hearts with your movement. Tell them stories with your power and grace and show them the beauty and magic we can unlock if we follow our dreams."

I signed up for my first silks class the next day. I remember that day like it was yesterday. One gangly guy standing in a long line of graceful women. Anna, our teacher, was a master. At once, I was lost in a joy so profound I completely forgot my fear of heights. I awkwardly climbed, attempted knots and holds and then fell. My hands burning like brittle bone in the fires of hell. But I didn't stop. I couldn't stop. It had finally begun. My heart had caught fire. I had found myself, and so I began training with every free minute. Committing my body as fully as I had committed my heart.

Here's where it all started: My first class at iva-berlin (https://iva-berlin.com/)  with amazing coach Anna.

Not long after that day I was given the opportunity to perform on stage. This was an incredible gift it finally allowed me to overcome my fear of expressing my feelings. I love to see how people react to my performance, and feel their emotions when I dance in the air. Lost in the music, expressing whatever story comes through me in that moment. Being there with only one wish: to be fully alive and to inspire those watching to take part. This is what I live for. This is why I train. This is everything to me.

I am becoming professional performer, but to do so my life as a project manager must end. Circus must become my whole life.

I have been accepted into a renowned circus school in London called NCCA where many top talent are trained. The school will immediately advance me into the second year as the skills I gained training on my own allow it. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It will fast track my career as a circus performer.

And I can’t wait.

Thank you...

Thank you a million to everyone who has supported me so far on my journey to becoming a circus performer—especially my family who has always supported and believed in me. Without you I would never have discovered my passion.

Big shoutout and thanks to all the amazing coaches and friends who helped me go forward in the world of circus arts. It is has been a truly amazing and humbling journey so far. I'm excited to continue on this path and will hopefully perform for you in person soon.

BIG HUGS,

Toffy

P.S.: If you have any other ideas to help me set base in London (e.g. knowing someone who has a spare room in a shared flat, side jobs, where are the best affordable healthy food places, tips and tricks), please share! Feel free to send me a message on FB or instagram.
