Hey everyone,
I’m Wilson, living in Belgium
As some of you may know, I recently spent a few days volunteering in Paiporta, Valencia, where severe flooding devastated the town on the night of October 29th.
During my time in Paiporta, I witnessed heartbreaking scenes of loss: people who lost their businesses, homes, and even loved ones. I met an incredible family whose story touched me deeply. They had already been in a vulnerable position, having previously lived in a refugee camp in Spain. Just when they had begun to settle and rebuild, they faced yet another hardship as the floods took away everything they’d worked for.
This family has a baby, just 8 months old, along with two older daughters (ages 8 and 12), who narrowly survived the flood thanks to a neighbor who helped them reach the second floor of a nearby building to escape the rising water. The father was at work when the flood struck, enduring hours of anguish without contact with his family. By nightfall, he learned they were safe, but they had lost everything.
Now, they are back in a temporary shelter set up for families unable to return to their destroyed homes.
Over my days in Paiporta, I helped clean what was left of their house, as I did with many others. But this family’s resilience and heartbreak have stayed with me, and I feel compelled to do more. That’s why I’m reaching out to my friends to help support this cause in any way they can.
Many of us are fortunate to have never experienced such loss. Let’s be grateful for that, but also open our hearts to those in need.
Thank you so much for your support. Even the smallest contribution makes a world of difference for those who have lost everything.
Love,
