Let's show love to the Hatchers!

As we begin preparing for the holiday season, it can be easy to forget that there are others who have more to worry about than festivities. During the fall of 2015, Lucas Hatcher was stricken with bacterial meningitis and spent several weeks in the pediatric ICU. His parents, Katie and Jamie Hatcher, were constantly by his side, while also caring for their eldest son, Benjamin. While others were home with their families, Katie and Jamie spent Thanksgiving in the ICU with their baby. Needless to say, this was an unexpected and terrifying experience for the family. The financial and emotional burden has continued as the after effects of the meningitis have become more apparent. Lucas was initially diagnosed with mild to moderate hearing loss and Katie and Jamie were told that this was likely the only lasting meningitis-related issue. Unfortunately, this was not the case. After undergoing a battery of testing, it became apparent that Lucas had a congenital brain defect (meningocele cyst filled with cerebral spinal fluid) that puts him at high risk of getting meningitis again, as well as a misplaced carotid artery, and herniation of the flocculus (a part of the brain associated with learning gross motor skills). Lucas is scheduled to have middle fossa craniotomy brain surgery at Boston Children's Hospital on 10/31/16. As you can imagine, this experience is not only emotionally and physically draining, but financially overwhelming. This is where you come in...we would love for Katie and Jamie to be able to focus on Lucas' recovery and the wellbeing of both of their children, rather than their finances.
