Un tractor para Ushetu

Tax deductible
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Saint Martin of Porres parish in the poorest Diocese of Kahama in the village of Ibelansuha in Ushetu in our mission in Tanzania, and any donation will help make an impact on the lives of the people, families, children, the elderly. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

The United Republic of Tanzania is located south of the equator on the east coast of Africa. Our parish population made of two different tribes; most of them belong to the Sukuma tribe and the other prominent group is from the Nyemwezi tribe.  The families are extremely poor, and two-fifths of the population in Tanzania make a living through agriculture.

During the year, the weather is characterized into two seasons: six months of rain and six months of drought, the latter being a very tough season on account of the extreme need for food and water. For this reason, the lifestyle of the people is exceedingly simple; they live in extreme poverty, most of them cannot afford to have 3 meals a day.

To be able to purchase a tractor, will help us to work the land and provide the community with food, and produce to sell.

Our mission including the two parishes, is located approximately 38 miles away from the city and it has an extension of 135 square miles (2,100 km2); is one of the poorest parishes in the diocese and is the largest apostolic center in the village of Ibelansuha.

At present we have 2,500 people attending the parish and around 1,650 children attending catechism classes; there are 400 adults preparing for the sacraments, and we have more than 30 voluntary catechists who attend and visit the local chapels in the villages.

The Institute of the Incarnate Word started at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in 2010 and in 2017 the bishop divided the immense territory resulting in two new parishes, one of them is San Martin of Porres, also administered by the Institute for pastoral service.

Our two parishes include 43 villages that are scattered throughout that area; we have to drive between 2 and 3 hours to reach some of them. Other villages are accessible only by motorcycle, others only by watercraft and others that are entirely inaccessible during rainy weather. The farthest village is roughly 28 miles away from the parish. There are two priests and five sisters attending the parish.

Our goal is to improve the lifestyle of all the people who live in Ushetu. There is still a lack of basic services. We recently built a medical clinic to help meet the people's basic needs, especially to attend to women in childbirth. We are building wells of water throughout the villages to provide crystal clear water, we are planning to build shelters for abandoned children, the elderly, and the sick.
