Help Me Become An Eating Disorder Recovery Coach

Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth Belois, and I am an Eating Disorder Survivor.  I have lived with my disorder for close to 2 decades, I have been in recovery for over 2 years, and I have been full remission since March 2020.

My personal recovery journey has been about healing my relationship with my body and with food, becoming embodied in my knowing of my wants and needs, finding compassion and validation for myself and others, and becoming empowered with autonomy. With my future, I now wish to support others along in their own recovery journeys and help them find their way back into their bodies, safety, knowing their own self-worth.

To achieve my goal of helping others recover from an eating disorder, I am here to ask you for your financial support.  Your financial support will allow me to attend The Carolyn Costin Institute, a renowned eating disorder training program and become a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach.  Your support will give me access to the education to help future clients on their individual paths as they heal from their own eating disorders.

*More information on each of these disorders can be found here  at www.nationaleatingdisorders.org

What does an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach Do?

As Eating Disorders are complex and nuanced, so is their treatment. For those who are fortunate to have access to care, treatment varies, and most often involves multifaceted teams; often ideally consisting of Individual Therapists, Family Therapists, Psychiatrists, Dieticians, and Primary Physicians.

As Carolyn Costin explains on her website, www.carolyn-costin.com, Eating Disorder Recovery Coaches are not therapists, but still serve a very important role in helping clients with day to day challenges.

ED Coaches help  clients meet treatment goals while also emotionally supporting them between sessions.  For example, coaches help clients as they transition home from being in treatment.  They provide meal support services, such as being there and helping clients with restaurant outings, grocery shopping, in-home cooking, etc.  Coaches also are able to attend special events with clients, such as family gatherings and vacations, where one may need extra help abstaining from Eating Disorder behaviors. With the use of technological check-ins, coaches are able to be there during a client's most vulnerable moments, giving them compassion, validation, and helping them stay recovery focused.

What Your Financial Support Means to Me

My path through surviving years of sexual trauma and an eating disorder is something that will forever be a part of my life’s story.  How I survived, coped, lived on, and recovered is not something that I intend to hide away.  I want to use it.  I want to take my experiences and inspire others; impacting change.

By becoming an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, I intend to make my offerings accessible to diverse populations in financial need, meet clients where they are at with their ED symptoms and behaviors, and I will be able to empathize with them in a very real way.  My journey out of the darkness is strength, and my personal experiences of healing will bring an important depth of connection to my future clients.  As their coach, I will work towards showing that hope is worth holding onto and that FULL Recovery is Possible.

And…this is where you come in.

In order to earn the Eating Disorder Recovery Coach Certification from the Carolyn Costin Institute, I need your help.

Up until about 2 years ago I was an Art Teacher.  I worked passionately towards this profession and excelled in heading Visual Art Departments in New York and North Carolina from 2010-2019.  I have my BA in Art and my BS and MA in Art Education.  This schooling gave me so much enrichment and ability, and also, unfortunately, so much financial strain.

Due to a series of Traumatic events in 2018, my health rapidly declined, and I had to take a medical leave from my Art Teaching position.  It is then that I chose to enter Eating Disorder Residential Treatment.  As my leave came closer to its end in 2019, I did a lot of soul searching and knew that, due to continued health reasons, I would need to resign.

So, now, I am here…in 2020…stable and capable.  Yet, going back to teaching art is not what my body and soul want me to do.  For the past year I have known that my past work as a teacher…a mentor…and my most recent years’ recovery journey, has led me to this place of making a career shift.

Yet, with COVID, we have had to remain a single income family.  My husband, Drew, who is a Special Education Teacher, works extremely hard to financially care for our family, while I have stayed home and helped school my daughter throughout Kindergarten and the beginning of 1st Grade.

More loans are not in the cards for us.  Paying this tuition that I need to get this coaching certification is not in the cards for us.  And, humbly, this is why I am here to ask you,

Will you be able to financially assist me and make this future possible?  Will you help me pay my way through the programming at The Carolyn Costin Institute so that I can become a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach?

The Program at The Carolyn Costin Institute Costs:

12 Modules + Final Exam + Supervised Internship = $4850

Learning by attending professional Coaching sessions = $250

Fees = $250

Total Amount:         $5,500

My Deepest Gratitude

Thank you for taking the time to read about this fundraiser.  According to www.nationaleatingdisorders.org, over 30 million people in the US will suffer from an Eating Disorder at one point in their lives, and EDs are the second leading cause of death due to mental illness.  It is an epidemic that is much bigger than my story, AND, by choosing to give financially to my tuition fund, you will be a part of the difference that I know I can make in many different communities. I know that we are in times when there is a lot of need in our country, and I want to thank you for considering a donation to my campaign; any amount will be a gracious step towards me reaching my final goal.

Thank you and best wishes.
