Help Tita's Hideaway

Donation protected
Tita's Hideaway, our beloved Sierra mountain home, was completetly destroyed by fire on Wednesday February 7th, 2018. This home was in our family for many generations, built circa 1850. The building had what is known as a colorful past. The structure had housed at one time the Tribune newspaper, a doctor's office, a shoe store, a makeshift jail and courthouse, great great aunt Lotti's Boarding house, and eventually became our family retreat "Tita's Hideaway".

Since the 1930's Tita's family and friends checked in, picked a themed room, signed the guestbook, enjoyed the eclectic decor,  soaked up the view of the Sierra Buttes, played horseshoes down in our cedar grove, enjoyed family style BarBQ, took a swim in the refreshing Yuba River, and last but not least had a photograph taken in a traditional porch picture.  Many good times and memories were made dancing, singing, making music, laughing, and playing games. The fire may have destroyed our home away from home, but nothing can take away our memories.

Due to the location and age of the home, our insurance was cancelled a few years ago. This is a current and common issue in the area. The multiple fire departments and local neighbors and friends were able to save both neighboring structures with minimal damage. We are eternally grateful for our mountain community and all the help they have already given.

Tita's last surving daughter, Cathy Nicholas, my mom, in her retirement, has really come to know and love the Sierra City community and has made it her second home, so this loss is quite significant to her.

Our hopes is to someday rebuild, but right now, we need to deal with the clean up and aftermath. We don't know what the costs will be yet, but we know it will be significant and we need all the prayers and help we can get.

If anybody has any experience, reccomendations, expertise, advice (good and bad), support in anyway is appreciated. No gesture is too small, if all you can provide is a hug or kind word, it will go a long way in helping us heal.

Thank you.
