Help Tisha go to Botswana!

Dear Family and Friends,

Last summer, after returning from my Peace Corps service in the Eastern Caribbean, I decided to pursue my graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, I am a first-year MSW student in the School of Social Policy and Practice. With one year left of graduate education, I am trying to make the most of my time at this prestigious institution.

At the university, I continue to serve as my cohort's representative in SP2's Student Government and as president of The Association of Black Social Workers. Both appointments give me great joy and purpose in my fight for social justice. Upon graduation, I hope to continue this legacy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, promoting social and economic justice and health equity among marginalized populations here and abroad.

Most recently, I have been accepted into Penn's highly competitive Global Internship Program with the Botswana-Upenn Partnership (BUP). This unique opportunity would allow me to build capacity and promote high quality healthcare among the populations of Botswana. I will be working directly with  Stepping Stones International (SSI), a non-profit organization located in Mochudi, empowering vulnerable youth, families and communities. Some of my duties will include providing psychosocial support, parental training, nutrition workshops, and leadership skills to help unlock their potential and create greater opportunity.

However, money matters.

Thankfully, I have been awarded a scholarship for $2,560; but this does not cover all of the anticipated expenses of this excursion. The program fee, alone,  costs $2,100 (noted as "TBD" above). Thus, leaving me with a meager $460 to cover other expenses (airfare, meals, transport, and personal expenses), which estimates to about $2700  for my 12 week stay (pictured below).
As I am unemployed, interning part-time, and studying full-time, this is frankly unaffordable for me. In order to avoid missing out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I need your help. Your financial support would afford me the necessary global advantage for my career interests, the opportunity to engage and empower the African Diaspora, and my first trip to the Eastern Hemisphere. With less than 2 months until departure,  I am in need of EACH and EVERY one of you. Please share with others who know me and/or share my passion for humanitarian work. :)

With Much Gratitude,
Tisha
