A lifetime of giving, a moment of need. For 51 years, Tim has been the protector—the brother who always watches over us, the sweetest uncle to my children, and a devoted son who moved back to Utah to be an emotional anchor for our father, a Vietnam veteran, through his battle with cancer—twice. Most recently, Tim supported our father through kidney cancer, putting his own needs aside. He has always worked hard, even ignoring his own health to care for his loyal dog Ripley, who needed unexpected surgery. Just as our father entered remission, Tim’s own battle began. A seizure led to a traumatic fall, and that was the day our world changed with the discovery of his stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

Tim was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that has metastasized to his brain (over 30 lesions) and bones. Our family received this heartbreaking news after Tim suffered a seizure, hit his head, and spent several days in a coma. While Medicaid has thankfully approved his treatments, the journey ahead is overwhelming, both emotionally and financially.

Tim is unable to work and is facing an immediate housing crisis. He is a fighter, and as he battles the extreme fatigue and nausea from chemotherapy, he is doing so under the crushing stress of the financial burden of daily existence.

Here are the key points of Tim’s journey so far:

• The Diagnosis: Stage 4 lung cancer. Doctors found over 30 lesions in Tim’s brain, as well as cancer in his lungs and bones.
• The Progress: After a week-long coma, Tim has defied the odds. He has completed 15 rounds of radiation and 2 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy, and still needs at least 2 more rounds of chemo and immunotherapy.
• The Urgent Need: Financial help for his bills. Our goal is to help cover his rent, utilities, and specialized nutrition so he can focus on healing.

Tim is now facing the challenge of keeping up with his rent, utilities, and other essential bills while focusing on his health. The costs of specialized nutrition and daily living expenses are adding up quickly, and he is struggling to make ends meet. Our family is doing everything we can, but we need help to ensure Tim can stay in his home and maintain his dignity during this difficult time.
