Help Tia gain access to independance

Donation protected
Hi i'm Beckie, I'm trying to raise money on my nieces behalf. Please read her story below.

My name is Tia and I am 18 years old.

In 2017, just when I started 6th Form, I went for a planned surgery for untethering of the spinal cord. Unfortunately, during the operation, I suffered a spinal stroke whilst in theatre. I woke up on the Intensive Care Unit completely paralysed from the neck down and unable to talk as I was being ventilated to give my body a chance to recover.

2 days before my 17th birthday I had to have a tracheostomy as doctors said I would be unable to breathe by myself. I spent 7 months in Intenstive Care at Birmingham Children's Hospital, proving doctors wrong and managing to have my tracheostomy removed, during this time I regained some movement in my arms and wrists allowing me to gain back some of my independence. I had regular physio sessions encouraging me to try and support myself sitting up, standing in a frame and building up the strength in my hands and arms. Through my OT sessions I was able to learn to do everyday tasks again, washing, writing, cooking, putting my make up on.

I have been an inpatient for 20 months so far as prior to my spinal cord injury I lived in a flat. As I am now a wheelchair user the flat was deemed unsuitable. Unable to return to the place I always knew as home was hard, eventually we found a house but it doesn't allow me to continue with the independence I have regained.  My local authority OT is funding a wet room, through floor lift and ceiling track hoist. My kitchen, back, and front garden are not accessible to me at the minute so I am trying to raise some money to gain back my independence allowing me into a kitchen and garden.

I was recommended two builders called Simon and Andy ( who work for Kiwi construction) who have agreed to help with the adaptations at trade price. They also recommended a architect to draw up the plans for us called Ben Palmer (H.G Design)  who has agreed to do these for free.  Simon has said that once £25,000 has been raised they are happy to start working on the house. Raising this money will allow me to continue to improve on my strength and skills that I have worked so hard to achieve, allowing me to live my life the best that I can.

My long term dream is to finish my A-levels, get a job helping people in similar situations and live in a house that I can confidentially do things for myself.

Please help me achieve my dream and donate what you can :)

UPDATE:  With the amazing support from Andy and Simon we have managed to drop our target to £30,000. They have managed to secure the concrete from Hills concrete and Kieron from EHSMITH is making a donation of materials. Thank you so much to everyone who has shown us support and helped us to try and give Tia back some independence.

Beckie will be withdrawing the money on my behalf.
