Help Thu's Family Re-Build After House Fire

Meet Thu Nguyen. She is a delightful young woman who has an Intellectual/Developmental Disability. Thu’s family lost their home, and all their belongings in a fire on August 27, 2021. Everything they owned is gone. Thankfully, no one was hurt. However, the house is not livable, and the re-build will take at least a year. Meanwhile, Thu and her parents, brother and sister have not been able to replace what they have lost. They are living temporarily with another family.

The family received a small amount of funds from the Red Cross, but their needs are much bigger than what the Red Cross is able to provide. Thu’s father works as a mechanic and Thu’s mother works as a nail technician. Thu’s younger brother and sister are in school. Thu is registered for online classes through the College of the Adaptive Arts part-time. Both Thu and her siblings need iPads or laptops for internet and online class access as their personal devices were destroyed in the fire.

Thu is a good friend and has a fantastic sense of humor. She enjoys dancing, cooking, and singing along to her favorite singer, Justin Bieber. Thu likes team sports and plays baseball on a Challenger Little League baseball team in Santa Clara. Thu’s favorite online class with College of the Adaptive Arts is Cheerleading. The students in the cheerleading class learn about leadership along with cheer basics and perform lively routines set to popular music. This loving family has stuck together through some difficult times and they have worked hard to make a comfortable and safe home together in San Jose.
