Help those who helped me #NHS

Hi

My name is Margot-Valentina (M-V) I was born with some major heart defects that need some major surgeries over the coming years, my life is expected to run for 25/30 years but we all carry hope that things improve by then and I can carry on forever.

I have undergone major heart surgery at 5 days old (Norwood procedure) and due many more to come.

I am not raising for myself or my family I want to raise for others like me and others like my mum and dad who will spend a lot of time in ICU wards and accommodation in the hospital. There are so many different parts that require support and id like to be able to share it out to them over the period.

My first visit was at the Leicester Royal where my mum and dad had to stay on chairs next to my bed because there were no accommodation available for them at the hospital and the hotels were a long way away from me, they did not want to leave my side so they spent time asleep on the sofas in the family room. The family room has supply of cereals and milk and cups of teas and coffee but the room is dated with a leaking kettle, broken microwave, an old fridge and a TV that doesn’t work well. We feel that the room provided families a space to think and talk, try and relax and re charge and that specific one needs some TLC.

The second element is the rooms that my mum and dad stayed in were old and tired with broken ceiling tiles, old decor and not a nice bed at all for them to rest and re charge so I would like to offer some help to this for other parents.

Without my mummy and daddy and there strength I may not have got through my first few days because they looked after me and comforted me.

I was moved to Birmingham Children’s for my first surgery and was greeted in a huge modern and supportive unit far greater than that at LRI - the support was great but we noticed the bedside chairs for the families were not comfortable and I think that some nice reclining chairs could make parents stay a little better.

The family room is lovely and modern and I noticed that there are a wish list for the liaison team to have for people like me who would like pictures for memory and new clothes that maybe some parents can not provide there child due to not being able to work etc so we would like to donate monthly to this team to cheer people like me up.

The biggest element of all this is a fantastic charity called the Ronald Mcdonald which house for free all parents from the ICU ward and provide them with rooms to sleep and shower and rest for the next day. These rooms are ran by charities and donations at 5k a year cost. I would love to be able to pay for a room a year.

I know my time is short right now and I know my life isn’t forever but already I feel we would like to give back to the incredible people of the NHS who work long hours with a smile, work with care and work with passion to save my life and others, they do not stop once they save my life they continue to provide care for me and my family. They are the saviour to us and we are forever in debt and I would imagine if not already at one time you will call on them, and maybe your contribution could just make this experience a little better for me my family or others in the future.

throughout my life I will need home care and equipment to help me live as long as possible to help my family know when I need help and we will need to replace monitors and other equipment throughout - your help means so much for me not just at hospital but at home

Thank you for your prayers and time in reading this.
