Help Thiviya pursue her dream :)

Hello,

I'm Thiviyaprasanthi Premkumar. I was a junior at Slippery Rock University Spring 2016. I transferred from American National College in Sri Lanka hoping to complete my degree in Pre-Medicine under the Professional Biology major. I was not able to make my payments in full and I had to give my dream and go back home because I wasn't allowed to register for my classes.

I went through unavoidable circumstances which is why I had to go home to be with my family. My brother was diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). My brother went through number of surgeries continuously since 2016 for the AVM in right hand thumb and doctors ran out of options to cure him due to the non-stop bleeding in his finger in Sri Lanka. So, he was sent to Singapore for his treatments last year. If required all the documentation can be showed. We almost spent around $40,000 for his surgeries in the past couple of months, insurance not covering any of the costs.

I apologized to university for not being able to make the payments requesting for more time until now. University was really understanding about my situation to help me with whatever they can. But I transferred to the states so that I could complete my degree with flying colors. I want to be able to achieve my goal.

My tuition fees cost a bit higher than the norm as I'm an international student but still I transferred with the scholarship I got. Until now, my father has worked daily for many years to afford the family needs and wants. He has spent so much on me till today and is willing to spend more so that I can complete my education. He was able to send me to states as he believed he could afford it in midst of all the struggles. Unfortunately, his business went down and he had to sell one of the property he had as the last few years hit us hard in order to afford my tuition fees.

Personal and financial reasons is the main reason I have taken four -semester break withdrawing from university to support my family by sacrificing my studies. I have signed a lease for my apartments to come back for this Fall 2018. I have not been idling just because I wasn't able to study due to all these problems. I have been interning as an observer at Asiri Central Hosptial in the capital, Colombo, to keep myself occupied with my major experience. Also, I have been working 45 hours a week at Subway as a Sandwich artist to be able to pay my rent every month at Cooper Street, Slippery Rock.

When I return back I will be studying hard to graduate as a Bachelor of Science in Biology in order to achieve my goal to become a doctor. I am willing to work 20 hours per week so that I can pay off my debt to the school and meanwhile my father will also be sending money towards my tuition fees so that my previous term can be paid in full and for the Spring 2018 semester. I am capable of studying and working at the same time as I have experience in Sri Lanka since the time of my withdrawal from SRU.

I'm really grateful to SRU because I have had the most amazing semester. Not only did I learn so much but the facilities provided by the school are really great. My parents sent me there so I can have a better future and a better living standard than they did. I guarantee that I will work and study hard not only for myself but for them too. Because they are the ones who had my back since I was born and it is my turn to study, work and help them out.

The Lutheran church at Slippery Rock is a place that brought me peace and happiness when I was going through so much. Mrs. Mennell at Slippery Rock was showering me with her love and gave me hope to start this page after sending me blessings from Pastor Loree, the Pastor of All Saints Lutheran. I'm really grateful for all the support she gave me through Jesus.

I really wish some miracle happens through letting the world know of my situation here. Trust me it was not easy opening up but still with the last bit of hope I had. Though this page doesn't bring the outcome I expect, I will be proud that I tried as much as I can to complete my degree like I dreamed of.

I hope you will be willing to help me in my education by donating a little amount you can. Because I believe every impossible thing becomes possible with the little effort we put and help we get.

Whatever the amount you donate will be used to pay off my remaining balance and towards my future education to pursue my goal. I still have nearly five months’ time left to return as my semester is starting in August 2018.

So PLEASE help me and try to share this page as much as you can. I really appreciate your time and this money will be used for the right cause. I'm thanking every big heart who is trying to donate for me.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Much love and a big thank you :)
