Help Our Family Recover From a Severe Black Mold Infestation
My husband and I are reaching out with heavy hearts and an urgent plea for help. Our home has become unsafe due to an extreme black mold infestation — something we never imagined could happen to us.
After the hurricanes Helene and Milton hit in 2024, our small family business suffered major financial losses that left us struggling to stay afloat. With so much of our income tied up in trying to keep our business alive, we couldn’t afford to make necessary home repairs and having another leak caused by the tenant living above us — leaving parts of our house with exposed drywall and lingering moisture for nearly a year.
Over the past several months, both of us began feeling constantly sick — fatigue, coughing, headaches — until we finally hired a professional to test the air quality. The results were devastating: our entire home was infested with toxic black mold.
Because the contamination was so severe, we had to remove our entire A/C system, all vents, the bedroom walls, our kitchen, and even the bathroom. What’s left of our home is unlivable, and without insurance coverage, every bit of cleanup and repair has fallen directly on us.
We’ve already spent everything we had, taken out loans to keep our business running, and my husband’s parents have even dipped into their retirement savings to help. Despite all this, there’s still so much left to do before we can safely move back home.
Right now, my husband, our four cats, and I are staying with his parents in their small house. It’s been an incredibly difficult time — crowded, stressful, and emotionally draining — but we’re doing everything we can to keep hope alive.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will help us finish the remediation and rebuild the parts of our home destroyed by the mold. If you can help in any way, it would mean the world to us.
We’ve always worked hard and taken pride in being self-sufficient, but this situation has pushed us to our limit. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story and for helping us try to get home again.
