Dear Family and Friends,
During a recent video chat with Joe I asked, “what’s that shirt your wearing?” It was a shirt made especially for ‘UNCLE JOE’ because his roommate Cole and his wife are expecting! Joe and Cole’s wife Michaela enlisted Cole’s Army buddies to help reveal the gender of their baby. She popped a balloon. Cole used eggs! Of course, one blue, one pink. The eggs revealed...IT’S A BOY! They are expecting their first baby, Liam, in May.
Cole and Michaela expressed that, while they are thankful for the ability to be in contact via Facebook Messenger, there are times they wish that Cole could have felt Liam kick for the first time, attend doctor appointments, shop and put together baby furniture, set-up the nursery; the day-to-day progression that most parents are able to experience, together when expecting.
The Army does allow Cole a “weekend” pass (a few days leave) to try and witness the birth of his child or, at the very least, if the timing is right, meet him before he has to return to his deployment responsibilities overseas.
Cole, Michaela, and their families are extremely grateful for the weekend pass but, as every military family understands, the Army does not assist monetarily with the transportation expenses. Transportation, on a moment’s notice from SK will cost Cole and Michaela a minimum of $1,500.
We understand that many people and families are not in the position to donate. Cole, Michaela and their family are just as grateful for your prayers for a safe and healthy experience as they welcome their new baby Liam.
