Help the youth of Cameroon get education!

Did you know that in Cameroon only 23% of people have access to the internet?

 

Being disconnected from the internet means being deprived of the opportunity to learn, communicate, and develop the necessary skills a person needs to thrive in the 21st century. Especially the coastal region of Cameroon suffers from a lack of vocational trainers that can teach young people the computer skills they need.

But we are working hard to change that!

 

We are Action Lab for Development (ACTLAB) and we believe that especially young people have the right to high quality education and training. We are a non-profit governmental organization. Our focus lies on youth entrepreneurship and humanitarian services for vulnerable groups like women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

 

Since 2017 the civil war is devastating our country. We were forced to relocate our organization from Bamenda to the much safer one in Douala. At the same time the COVID-19 lockdowns are preventing us from providing workshops. It became evident that we need to build a digital training platform where external trainers can contribute.

This would allow young people to access education when physical attendance is neither safe nor possible for anyone. It is essential that our young people can find jobs and avoid the pitfalls of unemployment, poverty, and hunger.

 

Unfortunately, most young people don’t even have the necessary devices to attend online courses.

But YOU can help!

 

Every donation, no matter how small, will help us provide internet access, computer devices and trainings to youth in desperate need of education and build a future for hundreds of young people!

 

A second-hand laptop that meets the basic requirements for online courses costs around 150.000-200.000 XAF (~300€ / 350 USD). With careful maintenance these devices last up to 10 years. This means the laptops will ensure access to education for a decade more to come. If we reach our goal of 15,000€ (~17800USD), we can buy 50 laptops for E-learning training. That means 50 young people can participate in the next workshop which starts in December 2021.

 

Since our launch in 2016, we have successfully trained 642 people on computer and business skills, social entrepreneurship and agriculture management. 80% of them found jobs and 20% were even able to create their own projects or businesses!
