Help the Wonderful Garcia Family

Donation protected
Margarita Garcia is much more to me than the person who keeps my home looking wonderful – she is my lovely friend.  On Monday morning, October 9th, she like so many others in Santa Rosa, lost every material possession to the Tubbs fire, as it devoured Coffey Park and so, so many other homes and businesses.  She and her husband were helping out family down in Mexico at the time, and her 19 year old son Esau made it out with their two dogs and his life -- nothing more.  They desperately need help in getting back on their feet.  Currently, they are staying with Margarita’s niece and 9 others in a one bedroom apartment.  The first priority is to get them settled into their own place, so they can pick up their lives again.  I asked her son Esau a few questions, in order to write their story, but as you read below, he certainly doesn’t need my help with that!  Many of you have asked me how you can help out following such incredible devastation to our beautiful Sonoma County – this would be a way to assist an incredibly beautiful family that means a great deal to me.  Please donate whatever you can to help support them getting into a new home.  Thank you!

Before I get down to answering your questions, I want to say how much I appreciate your help and the fact that you are interested in documenting a story about my family. I'm personally working on my own story, but sometimes it gets too difficult to reminisce on all the details.

What are the names of all your family members who lived with you in your house in Santa Rosa?
My home has always been a home for many. Aunts, uncles, friends, strangers, have all come and gone and have made memories in our home. However, in the end it's always been my father Juan, my mom Margarita, and me, Esau. Oh, and I can't forget our two malti-poo dogs Greñas and Cici.

What was the address there?
Our home was on Sweetgum Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95403.

When did you come to California?
My father was born in Tepatitlan, Jalisco Mexico (A town 40 minutes from Guadalajara). He came to California in the year 1985 and lived with his uncle's family in Santa Monica. In 1992, my father moved to Santa Rosa where he bought our first and only home on Sweetgum Street. Having only a piece of cardboard to lay on in his unfurnished bedroom, my father worked hard to build the home that I came to grow up in. My father met my mother back in Mexico, married, and brought her back home in the year 1995. Three years later, I was born in 1998 here in Santa Rosa and grew up in my home on Sweetgum. The only home, and the only neighborhood I've ever known.

What type of work does your father do?
My father has always been a garbage man serving our community here in Sonoma. He's the friendly guy you see driving the big green garbage trucks removing waste around our neighborhoods.

You are in college now, yes?
Yes! I'm currently studying for a career in Mechanical Engineering at the Santa Rosa Junior College. My aim is to follow my current program of study, which would allow me to transfer to Cal Poly SLO. My main goals are to graduate with a degree with minimal debt, start my own business, and be financially independent.
