Remembering Peter Ramirez of Tolland

Donation protected
We, the Board of Trustees of the Hicks-Stearns Museum, would like to help our friend and colleague who is the director of the Museum here in Tolland, Bea White-Ramirez, and her daughters, Beatrice and Kylee. They have experienced the shock and tragedy of the untimely death of their husband and father, Peter Ramirez, age 57. This is especially difficult for this young adult family with exciting goals in store. Beatrice just finished her associate degree, and Kylee has 2 more years of undergrad to go.

Our hearts break for them. With no services due to Covid, we wanted to show our support and care through a GoFundMe account. We invite you to participate. This page was written with Bea’s permission and input:

On July 23rd Peter had a seizure at home and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital. He was subsequently diagnosed with a large, benign brain tumor and a few days later underwent surgery to remove it. His prognosis was for a full recovery. Due to complications of the surgery, Peter suffered a massive stroke and was placed on a ventilator, but sadly, never regained consciousness and was not able to recover. Peter passed away on August 6, 2020 at the hospital, exactly 2 weeks after the seizure.

Peter had a broad array of interests and loved to joke around with a big smile. He enjoyed watching ‘This Old House’ and classic old movies, and listening to musicals, marches and Ragtime, even though he admittedly couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. He was a rabid Red Sox fan and also followed the Bruins, Celtics and Patriots. He was the king of random trivia, often called ‘the font of useless knowledge’ and he liked reading about American history. He prowled dusty antique stores and actually liked cutting and weed whacking the lawn. Thanksgiving will never be the same without Peter whipping up a batch of homemade popovers to savor while watching the parade and the Christmas season will not be complete without him watching ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ at least twice, or 3 times or…

Of anything or person in his life, Peter was always the proudest of Beatrice and Kylee, admiring how hard they both worked at their college classes, (MCC 2020 and Smith 2022), and endlessly marveling at what kind, personable, creative and amazing women they have grown to be.

The Board of Trustees of the Hicks-Stearns Museum is sponsoring this GoFundMe to collect funds for the family to help pay mounting medical bills as well as cremation expenses, and day-to-day living expenses. We appreciate any amount you are able to offer to help this Tolland family during this very difficult time.
