Honoring the Life of Ernie Whitehead – Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Hero
My name is Ryan, and with a heavy heart, I’m reaching out for help during one of the most painful and unexpected moments of my life.
On Wednesday morning, April 2nd, 2025, my father, Ernie Whitehead, passed away suddenly in his sleep from unknown natural causes. He was only 60 years old. The loss has left our family completely devastated.
Ernie was more than just my dad. He was a dedicated father of five, a proud grandfather of seven, and a man who devoted over 20 years of his life as a firefighter and senior paramedic, first volunteering at Springfield Township Fire Department (Station #3 - Rockway), and later serving as a career firefighter for Springfield City Fire Department until a non-work-related injury forced him into disability.
Though no longer on the front lines, my father never stopped being a hero. He lived his life as a follower of Christ, with a heart full of love, laughter, and unwavering compassion. He was respectful, selfless, and always willing to help anyone in need — friend or stranger. He risked his life countless times to save others, and now, I’m doing everything I can to honor that legacy.
Unfortunately, because of the unexpected nature of his passing, no plans or paperwork had been put in place. I’ve searched tirelessly, but I’ve been unable to locate a will or life insurance policy. And now I’ve learned that the funeral home will not allow me to schedule a service until the full cost is paid upfront.
That’s why I’m humbly asking for your help.
I’m trying to raise $6,000 to cover:
• Cremation and memorial service expenses
• An urn for his ashes
• Obituary, floral arrangements, pastor fees, and other associated costs
This is the first funeral I’ve ever had to plan, and the emotional toll has already been overwhelming. But I know my dad deserves a proper farewell — one that reflects the love and honor he gave so many throughout his life.
To every person who reads this, shares it, or donates — thank you. Your generosity, whether big or small, means the world to me. Every single dollar is a blessing, and I’m deeply grateful for each act of kindness during this incredibly difficult time.
If you’re not in a position to give, I ask only that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers, and please consider sharing this with others who may be willing to help.
With sincere appreciation and love,
The Whitehead Family
