Help the Washington Family with Funeral Costs

Donation protected

On April 26th, Adair Washington passed away after having been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, just two months prior in February. Her diagnosis and passing came as a devastating shock to her family. The goal of this fundraiser is to cover the costs of Adair’s funeral and the expenses of her cancer treatment.

Lea Washington, Adair’s daughter, said this about her mother, “Mom was a proud Black woman, wife and mother! She lived everyday to intentionally be kind to people and gave out of her pocket to make peoples dreams come true. She founded an outreach foundation called Reign Oasis Center. For 16 years the center helped and financially gave to college students, people that have experienced the challenging process of foreclosure, women’s shelters, Black group homes for those who have intellectual and physical disabilities, Black businesses that need assistance in getting started or have come to hard times and so much more. Mom’s passion was always to give to Black communities and communities of color, and the global community at large. She felt positivity was everything.”

Adair leaves behind her husband, Jeff, to whom she was married for almost 38 years, as well as her 25-year-old son J. Lamar and her 24-year-old daughter Lea.

I’ve made this GoFundMe on behalf of Lea Washington, Adair’s daughter. Lea is my friend and my former college roommate. When Lea told me of the news, I asked if there was a GoFundMe campaign set up to help raise funds for her mother’s burial service. Lea replied that she and her family didn’t feel comfortable asking for donations. So, I’m asking for donations on behalf of them. Lea has given me the OK to do this, and says she trusts me with this process.

Personally speaking, I’m no stranger to loss. I know how burdensome and overwhelming it is to go through the motions of grief, all while trying to fund and arrange the funeral of your parent. My hope is that this fundraiser will help lift the financial burdens from the Washington family so they may have a proper funeral that will honor Adair, as well as pay for Adair’s cancer treatments. Any additional funds that are raised will be used to help the Washington family’s immediate needs, such as leave of absence from work, therapy and grief counseling.

Every single cent donated is appreciated whole-heartedly. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this campaign and to learn about Adair Washington’s life. She is and will continue to be dearly missed.
