Help the USS Hornet Museum stay afloat!

I want to express my profound gratitude to each of you who have supported the Hornet by the gifts of your donations, your time, and equipment during these last months. Without your assistance the Museum would not have been able to partially open and continue serving our community, which has grown far beyond the Bay Area. It has been eight months since the Hornet closed its doors due to the Covid Pandemic and only three months since our reopening. In this time, the Museum crew has kept busy with restoration work and developing online educational programs, virtual events, and tours. The Hornet will be honoring our Veterans on November 11th with a brief ceremony and displays by veterans’ support organizations, and sister museums.
Since March, the Museum has experienced an 80% loss of revenue due to the Covid restrictions that impact our attendance, private events and liveaboards. We have reduced our payroll and expenses by 65%, and a further cut will occur in December. The Hornet is a warship and it is our legacy that we don’t run from a fight; we made the tough decision to keep our hatches open to provide a positive message and a place for folks to enjoy our rare and unique Museum during the pandemic restrictions.
The Hornet is requesting funding for an onboard PTSD resource center, not only for veterans, but for first responders, nurses and physicians, and our community members who have been severely impacted by the pandemic. We want to host a permanent PTSD office, hold regular events and display support services information. We want to fund Hornet Hotspots, provide computers and tutors to our underserved communities who so desperately need this assistance. The Hornet is an aircraft carrier that projected power far beyond its location, and we can do the same with programs that benefit not only our community but nationwide. If you stood the Hornet on end, it would be the height of an 80-story office building and we have the space and technology to succeed.
But the Hornet is going to need your help. We are reaching into our reserves and need your support to stay open during the winter. I am personally asking you for a donation to help us achieve our goal of supporting our communities by being open, providing online and virtual programs, Hornet Hotspots, and the creation of a PTSD resource center. If everyone that follows the Hornet donated this amount, we would be able to project our new legacy of not only a world class Museum but a Community and National resource to help those in need.
