<div><strong>About the University of Maine Equestrian Team</strong>

<div>The University of Maine Equestrian Team is made up of both a club and a competitive show team that participates in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) circuit every academic year. We proudly compete in Zone 1, Region 2, and represent UMaine in collegiate equestrian competitions across New England in hopes of competing at Nationals.

<div>IHSA offers six levels of Hunt Seat Equitation and Hunter Over Fences Equitation, ranging from Walk-Trot to Open Jumping, allowing riders of all skill levels to participate and grow. We welcome students from every riding background—there are no tryouts, only a riding evaluation to place members according to their experience and comfort level.

<div>Our team trains weekly using our coach’s horses to strengthen horsemanship, riding ability, and equine knowledge. Members also take part in fundraising, team meetings, and community outreach, which help make our program possible. Over the years, UMO riders have proudly qualified for Regionals and Zones, showcasing the hard work and dedication our athletes put in both in and out of the saddle.

<div>As of Fall 2025, our team has 25 active members, all sharing the same passion for horses and teamwork. Many of our members start out in the club program—learning, volunteering, and growing their riding skills—before transitioning into the show team. No matter your experience level, the team provides opportunities to ride, compete, and connect with others who share a love for horses.
