Help the Sterling Family

Donation protected

My name is Wendy Sterling and I am the wife of Paul Sterling. He is employed by the Laurens County Sheriffs Office as a Road Deputy. We have 4 children Dylan, Courtney, Gracie, and Abigail along with 2 grandchildren Brookelyn and Aaron. We still have two children at home with us. I am a stay at home mom and absolutely love every minute of it.

On November 13th that afternoon Paul started sneezing and having itchy eyes. So we started him on allergy medicine. He went to work as normal and was being his normal crazy self picking at me and Abigail. Saturday rolled around and it had cleared up for the most part. Saturday night he got ready for work as usual and signed on. About 11pm he came home with a bad headache. Gave him some meds and sent him to bed. I had been sleeping with Abigail since that Thursday night (she has bad growing pains and needed mama). On Sunday, November 15th I got up to get us ready for church and went to wake him up and instead of church we went to the urgent care. I honest to God just knew they were gonna tell us he had a sinus infection but that wasn’t the case. They checked him for the flu and it was negative, his lungs were clear, but the dr said her gut told her to check him for Covid. He was sent home with meds and we were told to quarantine until results came back. So as a precaution I canceled everything for us. School, work, dance, thanksgiving, everything!!!! Let our kids know not to come to the house until future notice (not inside but they could drop stuff off in the mailbox or porch and I wouldn’t come outside until they were gone). Still I’m thinking he doesn’t have Covid just a really bad sinus infection, right?! So on November 18th his results came back he was Covid positive. Fast forward to Sunday, November 22nd I called EMS cause his O2 saturation was dropping and he was just so weak. After 4hrs in the ER, 2 bags of fluids, and some iv meds he was sent home with more meds and told to return if he got worse. November 24th at 3:43pm I called EMS again. His O2 had dropped to 74%. Once EMS got here they wasted no time getting him on the stretcher, gave him a breathing treatment (o2 came up to 88 by the time they got here), started two ivs, and got him stable for the ride. They left here code 3! He was admitted to Fairview hospital  with Covid and pneumonia. The first couple of days I was scared I was gonna lose my husband he was so sick. After 9 days in the hospital on December 5, 2020 he was discharged to come home with oxygen at 2 liters and he still has Pneumonia. Today, December 18th I took him for another X-ray cause his breathing isn’t getting better and had to turn his O2 up to 3 liters. We won’t get the results until Monday morning December 21, 2020 to know if the pneumonia has gotten worse. If it hasn’t improved any they will be placing him back in the hospital

The Sheriffs Office and its employees have been amazing in donating sick time so he doesn’t miss a check but with him not being able to work any off duty work we have fell on hard times. The doctor bills have started coming in, Christmas for our kids, and 2 of our kids have birthdays in December on top of having your regular monthly bills.

Paul has always been a hard working man. Always providing for his family. With him not being able to work off duty he has lost a big part of his income. He lays awake at night worried about bills, paying for Christmas, and most of all just making ends meet until he is able to return to work. His doctors have said his recovery could be anywhere from 2-3 months. If you can find it in your heart to donate to us it would be greatly appreciated and we would pay it forward once he is back to work. If you can’t donate financially please pray for healing for Paul.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sterling
