Help St Columbkille's History Group publish a book

Donation protected

St Columbkille's is a wonderful church in Rutherglen Lanarkshire Scotland.

A few years ago some of the older parishioners got together and formed a History Group, to do something useful and keep them out of
mischief.

Throughout lockdown the History Club continued online and was incredibly important in keeping everyone connected with each other and not feel so alone when having to isolate for such a long time.

During this time we worked on a book about the church and people.

We didn’t write a dry, long-winded historical account, but an interesting short-winded historical account. Most importantly it is about ordinary people's memories of events, and people's experiences.

We write about ….What has gone on? Who has made a difference? Who can tell us about their funniest memory?

Lots of people shared their memories, mainly of the 1950s and 1960s. Lots of readers will be transported back in time. Younger people will learn how it was then and what happened in this parish community

At our age its best we remember whilst we still can or are here too lol

It had been 30 odd years since there had been any publication about the church and we thought it was high time there was one.

We hope the content will appeal to the wider community as many of St Columbkille's congregations' experiences are similar to other Roman Catholic churches of that era.

We have raised some money through a charity donation and all we need is a further £1000 to get the book published.

This will be used to get the manuscript edited, nicely laid out, and published. We want to do a good job.

This is why we are asking you, our friends, our community, our future friends. Please help us no matter how little the amount we will be so grateful.

Our target date is September 2021.

Wish us luck.

More about the church

St Columbkille's sits right in the heart of the Royal Burgh and was designed by the well known Architectural firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia, replacing a smaller church on the site founded in 1851

It is a magnificent building and benefits from a kind and welcoming congregation.
