John, Kristy, their 11 year old autistic son Jasyn along with their 2 cats are facing eviction. On Feb. 14th they went to their Apartment management and made a partical payment on their rent. Thanks to all of you who have made donations! The management gave them an extention. They have until Feb. 28th to pay the remaining rent so they can stay in their apartment.
Kristy was hospitalized with the flu in October, again in November due to Chronic stomach and finally with a broken leg due to a fall in December. Kristy was set to to begin part time work in late December as a cashier but broke her leg. rencently she had to go back to the ER with complication in her ankle, Hopefully she will be healed completely in 4 weeks and be able to get a job.
John is a long time Special Education teacher. He also works at his local Neighborhood Market as a stocker. He also tutors two nights a week. When Kristy was ill he had to miss time from all three jobs to care for Jasyn and his He also is in need of a hip replacement in June of 2018 and struggles with pain. He hasn’t been able to work many hours as they had expected.
A new apartment management company took over on October 12th they had no record of rent received by the previous company for October. (There has been 5 management changes in the 5 years they have lived in these apartments.) They didn’t issue a receipt and no other record of payment can be found. They were first informed of the missed month rent on November 6th and late fees had occurred. They made a rent payment in November that was applied to October and haven’t been able to make any additional payments due to missed wages, unforeseen medical expenses, utilities, car payments and other daily expenses.
The landlord didn’t send any further written notices of missed rent and associated fees until the family was served 10 days prior to court by the mail in late January The family couldn’t pursue outside assistance until receiving a formal eviction.
Due to his multiple sources of income the family exceeds financial standards for many assistance programs and as a result their family is ineligible for SSI associated with Jasyn's Disability. In January their medical deductible reset and they were faced with additional costs of previously covered prescriptions and other medical expenses.
The family seeks stability and wishes to attempt to stay at their current residence until Jasyn completes elementary school. With Kristy's broken leg and limited finances a move at this time would be a challenge to say the least. They don’t really have a place to go. They are also concerned about their personal belongings and their two cats Tinker and Pixie.
If goal is not met the family plans to apply funds raised toward relocation expenses, down payments, daily expenses, and/or temporary housing until a new place can be found. Any funds over the avoid eviction funds will be redirected to future expense and the possibility of further lost wages.
John has expired tags right now he is currently share a ride with a coworker they family did get rid of cable and were aided with Christmas for Jasyn. John reached out to resources at work with limited success. His school's social worker and Platte County social worker have had little success finding programs that we are eligible for or offer the level of assistance they require.
John and Kristy would appreciate any funds you can send to help them get back on their feet.
