Help The Quillen-Jent Family Rebuild

My name is Brandon Jent. Much of my family’s home was destroyed in the thousand-year flood in Kentucky last July. We have been slowly trying to get our house repaired ever since, facing a series of setbacks until our house ultimately caught fire yesterday, January 15th, most likely due to unsuccessful attempts at electrical repair.

We currently all have housing at the moment, but I have lost pretty much everything I owned before 2020, and my mom and sister have lost far more than that. We did not have insurance on the house, so there is no financial help that can come to us in that way. We spent months clearing flood debris and salvaging what little remained of our belongings after the flood just to have the majority of it burn in the fire, and we have spent even more time waiting for the day when my mom and sister could move back into our family’s homeplace. We no longer have any hope of that now. My sister put it best when said she will always be homesick for our little brown house with the purple roof. I feel the same.

EDIT TO ADD: For more context, we were given FEMA funds to rebuild but those have since been exhausted, and we are currently looking into the possibility of my mother being scammed out a large portion of those funds (~$13,000) by contractors hired to repair the house. My mom also faces a lot of health problems and more often than not gives what little she has to make sure others in our community are taken care of, so she cannot afford to physically or financially contribute to repairing the home.
