Hi, my name is Larry Smith. My wife and I have been best friends with the Priolets since we took Lamaze classes together when Cynthia was pregnant with their first child Nathan, and my wife Bharti was pregnant with our first child Jake. Our daughter Samantha is the same age as their second son Quentin. We’ve been on numerous family vacations together, and have had countless dinners and holiday get-togethers since we became best friends. They are really like family to us.
Through CaringBridge and word-of-mouth, there has been a tremendous out-pouring of love towards the Priolets in terms of prayers, providing meals and gift cards of various types. No one has been more helpful or ‘hands-on’ than Shelly Sanner, who has really been a blessing and has known the Priolets even longer than we have since they met back in Paris before they were even married. I think everyone is aware of the struggles Cynthia has gone through with battling cancer for over seven years with several surgeries, numerous rounds of chemo therapy and even experimental treatments through NIH. While we all hope and pray she beats the cancer, we all know this is really in god’s hands. While Cynthia’s battle with cancer has been devastating, the Priolets are also faced with other significant challenges in France with Philippe’s family. Philippe’s mom Gisel has also been battling advanced cancer and his brother Michael has severe Pancreatitis which is life threatening. Cynthia and Philippe are always so appreciative of the out-pouring of love and help with food and gift cards, which they never asked for, but people who love them just want to help in any way possible.
Bharti and I have spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out how we can help offload some of the strain on them and Nathan and Quentin, and we realized that the biggest challenge they are really going to face is likely to be financial, with mounting medical bills and you never know when Phil is going to have to catch a flight to France to be there for his mom or brother. At times, they’ve received more food than they could actually store, and the gift cards are nice and more personable, but it’s not easy to aggregate gift cards from places like Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc. into funds that can be applied at their discretion based on their needs and circumstances. In this vein, Bharti and I decided to setup an account through a reputable organization known as, “Gofundme.com”, where people who want to help can make donations, and the only beneficiaries who can access the funds in the account will be the Priolets.
Please don’t feel pressured to give, that’s not what we want and I know that’s not what Cynthia wants and at first she was apprehensive about us even taking this initiative.
If there are others that you know that would like to help, please feel free to forward this message on to them. We figure every little bit helps, and to get things started we seeded the account with $1000.
